Oats In Springtime

Wish I felt as pretty as this bowl looks –

IMG_4139 (1024x768)

I only had 2.5 drinks last night, but geez, I sure don’t feel/look that great this morning. I slept until 9:30!! Although I didn’t go to bed until 1am, so that’s about the 8 hours I needed.

But the SUN is out and it’s a surprisingly warm 64* out already!!! I stepped out onto the patio thinking I’d take a photo out there and then move to the kitchen table and I expected a blast of cold air – not so! I got a blast of warm air and got to eat out there too 🙂

IMG_4141 (1024x768)

It was too late in the AM to do yoga this morning and I was hungry, so we came down and made breakfast ASAP.IMG_4138 (1024x768)

The mix:

  • 1/3 cup oats (with some 9 grain mixed in), milk, water, banana, salt
  • 1 date
  • 1/2 cup pumpkin, stirred in at end
  • 2 tbsp cottage cheese, stirred in at end
  • Cinnamon
  • Coconut butter
  • Flax
  • And Pumpkin Raisin Crunch – for some crunch!
  • Oh, and Barney Butter!

 IMG_4140 (1024x768)

Going to chug some water now.

Today’s Agenda:

  1. Make meal plan/grocery list
  2. Bike to Trader Joe’s (~6 miles)
  3. Run with Nate (and Michelle? And Kate!?) ~4 miles
  4. Grocery shopping
  5. Bike home
  6. Lunch
  7. Management Continuum for Foodservice…….

I was so impressed by your restaurant/food management project, Kath! Are you sure you won’t consider opening a restaurant of your own?! 🙂

It’s wonderfully warm here, too! I’m so thankful!

It’s warm here too but for some reason on Wed is supposed to go down to 40! What’s up with that?

    hey kath,

i just blogged about a recent ADA article linking vegetarianism in teens to an increased likelihood of later developing an eating disorder… and i’m wondering what your thoughts are (and/or your thoughts on my thoughts– my entry is below):

    Emily ,
Thanks! A restaurant could be in our retirement plans 🙂

    rebecca ,
I don’t really know that I’m in a position to make any decisions about what does or doesn’t cause eating disorders (wish I had time to read the whole study) but I don’t think a style of eating would “cause” an eating disorder. Rather, I think those with the propensity towards an eating disorder would gravitate toward eating styles that cut out entire food groups, vegetarian included. Thanks for sharing.

    Tracy ,
    Check the FAQ page!

    thepinkpeppercorn ,
    Aw, thanks 🙂

    hi kath,

just one more food for thought (please note that i’m not trying to reject your viewpoint… rather i value it highly!)… i posted this as a response on my blogpost but in case you didn’t see..

oh i definitely do think that there are many healthy vegetarians, i am just questioning their reasoning… and i actually went back and edited my 95%/5% figures, thinking that i may have been a bit extreme =).

i DO believe that the style of eating CAN cause the ED in those that are already susceptible to a disorder. take my sister and me for example… our mother clearly has food issues and is clearly underweight… and yet my sister turned out ED-less, and i won the ED prize. both of us were at a higher risk than the average girl with a healthy/non-disordered mother. so my point is, perhaps had both of us grown up without that influence, we might have both escaped an eating disorder, and i think the same is true for dieting and (perhaps to a lesser extent) vegetarianism. dieting for me was a very dangerous thing to do, given my predisposition, and i think most teens who take on vegetarianism probably do not have enough information/experience to make healthy choices… and that puts them at risk.

i do agree the person may also gravitate to the style of eating… i just think it does work both ways.
