The Light Is Greener On The Other Side

IMG_4961Blog

Last night, our dining room got a facelift.

IMG_4964Blog

Say hello to our new green apple light!! After much debate between safe neutral colors and wacky patterns, we decided to go with a bold color in a safe solid pattern. My other light requirements were at least 2 bulbs 100 watts each and a diffuser on the bottom (since this is where most of my dinnertime photography takes place!!)

We settled on this green silk shade from Seascape Lamps. We’re very happy with the choice – and should we decide to go more neutral down the road, the company has TONS of shade colors that we could easily swap out with the same lighting kit.

IMG_4965Blog

Matt impressed me 1,000 percent by doing this project himself – from cutting the rod to fit our height requirements to doing the electrical work. Husband points!

IMG_4966Blog

We have yet to see it at night because we didn’t have the bulbs last night, but I love it during the day!

IMG_4963Blog

I put on my matching fleece and went for a 4 miler after writing all morning. It’s below freezing here but I was toasty in 3 layers, 2 hats and gloves!

IMG_4960Blog

Back at home I had leftover quinoa salad – with more goat cheese!

IMG_4968Blog

And an apple.

IMG_4970Blog

Debating one of my cookies for dessert!

Decision: yes!

I love your light Kath!! I am also a big fan of bright bold colours and have quite a lot of them splashed around my house. With the 2x100W bulbs and a diffuser, do you find your night time photos need much editing?

Well I don’t know yet because we don’t have the bulbs yet to test it, but I’m guessing yes

HAHA I love that you bundled up for a run! My coach always tells his runners to under-dress because your body will heat up naturally and all that gear will just weigh you down… and I’m like, hello it’s 20 degrees out! I’m wearing my layers!

Since you are a goat cheese fan have you tried quark yet? I’ve just started finding it in our co-ops and whole foods here in MN. To me it tastes like the curds in cottage cheese but with a goat cheese texture. Can’t wait to try it on a bagel.

I like the lamp choice, and I certainly will say you can’t get lost in a snowstorm in that outfit! Love the bright colors, I HATE it when at night the joggers, pedestrians, bicyclists all wear black… If I see something, I will put my high beams on, it makes them look around. I always think, it’s your life, please don’t wear black at night!

Do you still recommend a 50mm f/1.8 lens to beginner photographers not ready to invest a bunch of money on lenses yet?

Yes, it’s a wonderful lens for the price. My only complaint was that 50 mm is so cropped that food was hard to photograph. People too. My 35mm is so much more versatile

When you think of it, green could be thought of as a neutral colour…nature is full of green to compliment all the beautirul colours nature provides. In your case, the green acts as the colour to give your dining room the added ‘je ne sais quoi’ it needed. Beautiful!

Although I think anything with goat cheese added to it is delicious. I’d probably eat a dirty gym sock if someone covered it with goat cheese. Probably wouldn’t change the smell too much, huh?
