Taste The Rainbow

Feeling much, much better after 45 minutes (!!) of Detox Yoga #1 and a run with the husband. I decided it was an appropriate time to purchase one of the longer YogaDownloads so I got the Detox one. It was very good – lots of twists, which I love, but it wasn’t my favorite session ever. But I’m still glad I got it. I felt better during yoga, but it was the run that really cured me. All that huffing and puffing. We set out in the sunshine and ran about 4.5 miles. The husband always runs fast on Sundays so I had to book it to keep up with him.

When I got home I did Polly’s newest 10-minute Yoga for Runners session as my cool down stretching. She’s so cute! When I uploaded my photos, I found this one in the mix – guess he snuck it when I was focusing on getting into a lunge!

After a shower, I was starving for lunch! We have a stocked fridge from yesterday so I did one of my tasting plates –

IMG_1210 (1024x768)

The veggies with a big dollop of Sabra hummus. I actually didn’t finish all of the veggies (~20%) and packaged them up for my lunch tomorrow. (Dad, can you believe I eat cherry tomatoes now?!??!)

IMG_1211 (1024x768)

2 little grapefruit sections (I had 3 more while prepping lunch)

IMG_1213 (1024x768)

A small batch of kale chips!! I wash and trim all of my kale at once and keep it in a ziplock bag with a paper towel so I can just throw it into recipes or make chips at a whim.

IMG_1214 (1024x768)

And a slice of Raisin Walnut toast with a few almonds –

IMG_1215 (1024x768)

We’re headed to Karen’s condo to join her and her friends for a Superbowl Party. I’m bringing the same salad I made last night to contribute to the spread!

Bananer

Michelle posted her banana pudding recipe here – it’s the best I’ve ever had!

Enjoy the game! Or at least, enjoy the food and the company while watching the game.

That’s why I don’t do yoga while the boyfriend is in the same room…next thing I know my downward-facing dog shows up on Myspace or something 😉

I’m so glad I found your blog for the first time today! I’m going to start my R.D. studies pretty soon (in the middle of apps now), and it’s such a comfort to have found a blog from someone on the same path! Your eats are gorgeous – I won’t even go into the oatmeal tribute, but suffice it to say I’ll be eating it 3 meals a day for a while (kidding). Your blog is going to be a regular read for me – thanks. 🙂

I love the tasting plate!! And so glad you liked detox yoga. I like twisting too. You should check out Eoin Finn’s podcasts (free) – they might be a little more flow than you usually like, but he has a variety of longer classes so you can check out what you like. I just finished “Tragically Hips” (~1 hour) which starts out kind fast but after the first 15 minutes or so he really slows down and does some niiiice hip stretching – pidgeon pose 🙂

    Hi Kath and everyone,
Can someone advise me on kicking a chocolate habit? It usually emerges when I’m feeling stressed, upset or procrastinating about something.
I know that people recommend calling a friend or doing something fun to take your mind off the cravings but I have no one to call and work that needs to be done. I find myself binging on cold chocolate bars (the crunch is satisfying in a way that carrots never are).
I really don’t want to put on more weight and I haven’t been to the gym as much lately because I’ve been sick (colds and winter unpleasantries).
    Thanks for any help!

    Laurel,

Why don’t you get rid of any old chocolate bars that may be available for binges? You could get Diet Hot Chocolate (Swiss Miss) … it’s 25 calories and takes time to drink, so you could have that and use the time to kindof meditate on what is really bothering you. Just an idea!

    Becca ,
Harris Teeter brand baby dills. I like Claussen too.

    Diana (Soap & Chocolate),
    Welcome and thank you!

    Sami ,
    haha – no way!

    Maggie ,
    Thanks for the rec!

    Libby ,
Thanks for your comment 🙂 Yes, dead bug’s is not very attractive!

    Laurel ,
    I’d try two things:
    1) Get all chocolate out of your house. If you have to drive to the store to get it, the craving is worth it.

    2) Try just having a small piece of your very favorite kind when you have a craving. Rather than fight it, satisfy it – with a portion small enough to fit into your daily eats.

Ha, ha we should have taken pics of the “party yoga” from last night 🙂

    Laurel,
My suggestion is not to go cold turkey. I have a REALLY bad sweet tooth and I keep those Bliss candies around and 2 or 3 of those cures my craving. Otherwise, I just start eating us out of house and home because nothing cures a chocolate craving but chocolate 🙂
