Strength

Getting up this morning was easy despite getting into bed a little late. We were at the gym and sweating by 5:45. I had a stupendous workout: 17 minutes on the ET while I waited for the Stepmill to open up, then 30 minutes on the SM, then pull-ups, push-ups and KellyT lunges + upper body lifting. I don’t think I have ever felt as strong as I did today. Guess what I have to thank? Yoga. Go ahead and say it together: “We told you so!”

Breakfast was a wonderful bowl of Banana Cottage Cheese Fig Seedy Oats starring the rest of this ProBar –

And my new zebra bowl from Homegoods!

IMG_1818 (800x600)

IMG_1819 (800x600)

The mix:

  • 1/3 cup oats, vanilla soy milk, water, pinch salt, 1/2 large banana
  • Another half large banana (we’ve got an overload from Costco to use up fast)
  • 1/2 tbsp ground flax
  • 2 dried figs, chopped
  • ~1/8 cup cottage cheese, stirred in at end
  • ~1/5 ProBar
  • Barney Butter, dotted

Cafe. The French press froth looks like a frozen lake with a melting part –

ProBar Suspense

Word on the street is that ProBar is going to be releasing some new bars in the coming weeks. Excitement! In honor of the anticipation, my friends at ProBar are giving away a box of 12 bars to one lucky winner. To enter, just leave a comment with your favorite seed.

What might it be?

Sunflower, hemp, flax, sesame, fennel, cardamom, fenugreek!?

TEST TIME!

    Hey!
Flax are my favorite seeds at the moment.

I somehow stumbled on your blog, and I’m addicted to it! You have some fantastic recipes—and I’ve always been a big fan of oatmeal! = )

I love flax seeds and found this recipe a while ago for flaxseed “muffins”. It calls for Splenda, but I use that or regular sugar.

    Ingredients
    • 1 large egg
    • 1 1/2 teaspoons Sugar/Splenda
    • 1 teaspoon cinnamon (I use more)
    • 2 teaspoons plain fat-free yogurt
    • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
    • 3 tablespoons ground flax seeds
    Directions
Spray a microwave safe bowl with cooking spray (or use a muffin liner).
In the bowl, mix the egg and sugar until well combined (I use a fork), add the yogurt and blend well.
Mix in the ground flaxseed, cinnamon and baking powder until well combined.
Microwave on high for 1 minute 30 seconds to 2 minutes. (the bowl should be no more than half full since these do get bigger!)
Put a little butter on top and eat right away!

    Hope the test went well!

depends on how specific you get! you see, beans, cereal grains, nuts and legumes are all technically seeds. BUT in the traditional sense, i would have to say poppy seeds! they look like little freckles and make me happy 🙂

    Chia seeds!

with flax coming in close second – ground together and stirred into morning oatmeal, or sprinkled on a pb&j sandwich, or even onto soups, chilis, stews and salads!

Hands down, cardomom wins…I looooove green cardomom..you open the pod and grind the seed in a mortar and pestel..or crack open the pod and add to tea to make masala chai…it’s also great in rice pudding/kheer.

Fenugreek would be second…it’s great on pan fried fish..
