It’s warm enough to….
Dine al fresco!! Totally crazy!
Matt and I knocked out 6.2 hard-core miles around 11:30. Emily is out of town and this is a light break week for my half marathon training (FYI, I registered for it last night!!!! It’s official!!)
Matt led me on a fast run. Miles 1-4 were 8:27, 8:13, 8:25 and 8:33. Then we hit a big hill on mile 5 and slowed to 9:11 and then got to discussing bread dough for mile 6 and wrapped up with 8:55. My quads are feelin’ it now!
Once home I made my usual Sunday SIAB!!
Dark dinosaur purple green from kale + berries
- 3/4 a cup vanilla soy milk
- 2 big handfuls kale
- 1/2 banana
- 1/2 cup frozen berries
- 1/2 packet of Vega Whole Food Health Optimizer (I like this for protein, greens, EFAs and the sweetness it gives to smoothies along with the texture. It thickens the smoothie and is slightly gritty)
- 1 tbsp flax
- Topped with Mix My Granola Cinnamon Banana Almond Chia
I had a tasting plate on the side of fruits, veggies, healthy fats and grains
Kiwi, carrot + celery, Nuttzo and Seeded Spelt Dr. Krackers (which I didn’t finish and shared with Matt)
Afternoon plans are to make a video for GoodBite, finish helping my mom make a website and walk to the shopping center to deposit a check.
Hope it’s warm where you are! Soaking it up since I know it’ll be freezing again before I know it…

Lauren @ A Fit Foodie says
It’s finally warm in Louisville! I’m enjoying every second! Good for you for knocking out that fast run!! Now you can rest your knees the rest of the day and don’t have a long run looming over you!
Yay for a run with the hubby! aaand jealous of the fact that you CAN dine al fresco!! ahhh! It’s 41 here…which is much nicer than 22…but def not “dine outside” weathah! Your eats look wonderful!
Leo @ Cupcakes In Paris says

Lucky you with the warm! It’s freezing and pouring with rain where I am :'(
Congrats on the run, that’s a really good speed! If you’re anything like me, with those speeds in training you’ll be on course for a sub 1h45 time 😀
Have a good afternoon!
Lauren @ eater not a runner says
Wow jealous of the warm weather! And great job on the awesome run 🙂
Monica @ Musings of the Granola Girl says
Winter storm warning in IL 🙁 BUT I’m leaving for a vacation in a week so I’ll tough it out!
Your first half? How exciting! Which race are you running?
Oooh, I love that the Nuttzo can be used equally well for savoury as for sweet. Do you think it could make a good satay sauce? Also, wow to the colour of your SIAB. Impressive!
it makes a fabulous satay sauce, i made one for shrimp the other day!
Running RaceFest Half in Charlotte on April 10
Wow, that is so nice! I want to eat outside! Have fun with your half! My first half was amazing! I hope you have just as great of an experience as I did.
Macrae Carreker says
I love how you can just bust out speedy miles! You must be a natural athlete and you’ll do great on the half!!. Just curious, but what is your speed on a treadmill?
What do you mean by speed on a treadmill? I rarely run on them, but I did last week and did intervals between 6.6 and 7.5
I love eating outside! can’t wait until we can!
Jessica @ The Process of Healing says
Congrats on officially registering! I’m registered for the same half but it looks like I won’t be running it 🙁
Your SIAB looks awesome! The weather is gorgeous here too and i’m enjoying it!
Oh that would have been fun!! Why can’t you run 🙁 An injury?
Lisa @bakebikeblog says

Caitlin @ Right Foot Forward says
Awesome splits! It is warm here, too – but it is supposed to rain or snow all week. Oh well, gotta enjoy the weekend while it lasts!

I’m jealous of your sunshine :< Enjoy for me!!!
Jenn (www. j3nn.net ) says
It’s getting warmer here, I can sense that Spring is on its way, but I also know that March is usually in like a lion, out like a lamb. So I’m expecting some more of Jack Frost before spring is officially here. 🙂
Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down) says
Totally jealous of your warm weather lunch!! 😀 Spring can *not* come soon enough!
Congrats on signing up for the HALF! Awesome! 😀
how do you feel about guar and xanthan gums?
I don’t know much about them other than that they are natural and extracted from foods. I dont’ think I’d eat them everyday, but I might like to try them out. I dont’ see anything wrong with using them.
Its 46 degrees here in NYC and I’m pretty happy just for that!
Still so cold here! I’m incredibly jealous, but it gave me hope for spring. Enjoy!
Can I ask why soy milk? I’m sure you might have said it somewhere in the past, but I wanted to hear your opinion. I’m a new KERF follower
I like the taste of it and alternate between cow’s milk and vanilla soy milk from time to time.
lynn (The Actors Diet) says
it was 70’s this week, but now it’s gone back to a “cold” 60. i know, i know, shut up lynn
Okay, completely jealous of not only your eats – but your WEATHER!! We are supposed to get 12 inches of snow tonight! 🙁
christie @ honoring health says
Hoooray for spring. I can’t tell you how happy I am to see your patio table again 😀
Nicole, RD says
I’m jealous! It’s cold and rainy here!
Awesome about the 1/2 mary! You’ll do great! Today’s run sounded like a good one!
Just went to our local farmers market out here in Brentwood, CA and we stumbled upon a Great Harvest tent! They were selling loaves of bread like crazy! The cinnamon bread is to die for, and I can’t wait to try the granola bar I got! You guys must be so excited to be repping the GH brand, what an awesome company!!
We’re loving the sun out here in Seattle too! Totally unheard of this time of year and while it’s not quite warm enough to dine al fresco, we are hitting the OUTDOOR tennis courts today 😉
Send some of that warm weather to Chi please!
Michele | aka Raw Juice Girl says
That’s a beautiful lunch, Kath – it looks so yummy!
And congrats on getting to enjoy it outside. It’s cold and rainy in Missouri today. I’m so ready for summer, too!! Has this been the longest winter or what??!! LOL
I’m loving this warm weather! Hooray for dining outdoors.
Cynthia (It All Changes) says
It baffles me when people eat kiwi with the skin on. The crazy texture change freaks me out.
congrats on signing up for a half!
your al fresco dining looks beautiful.

The colors of the foods compliment the colors of the dinnerware and background.

I made your creamy banana oatmeal this morniing for the family and it was a hit!

I love how you dined outside! I live in Vancouver BC and it’s soooo nice outside! Perfect weather for sitting outside a coffee shop enjoying some gossip and iced coffees. Congrats for registering for the half marathon!!
I’m jealous of the beautiful weather you are having! It is about -10 C here and it was snowing earlier! We are expected to get TONS of snow this week so I don’t think I can hold my breath yet about eating or doing anything outside.
Congrats on officially registering!! I want to get into running one day. I’ve always tried it on the treadmill and just find myself counting the seconds tick by. I hear running outside is a whole other world.
Help your mom make a website? Has she been inspired to blog?
It’s for her writing, but blogging might be involved!
Meg @ Be Fit Be Full says
Congrats on signing up for the half marathon! You are going to kick butt 🙂
I hope this spring like weather hangs around for a while!
Ally (Exercise and Pies) says
I was in NC this weekend snowboarding and even up in the mountains it was 50 out!!! Beautiful weather 🙂
My neice is in Charlotte (Fort Mill, actually), and she’s a runner…wonder if she’s training for the half.
Good luck! You guys are smoking fast. I just got a Garmin, which is GREAT. I’m not as slow as I thought I was, but I still peak out at about 9:00/mile, averaging closer to 10:15 for longer distances, and 10:30 for my first half.
Heather (Heather's Dish) says
that’s so crazy you guys could eat outside! wasn’t it JUST blizzarding (or freezing rain) there last week?! lucky girl though…hope your sunday was awesome!
Do you eat kiwi skin or as I like to call it…..the fuzz?!? 🙂
I’m sooo jealous of your weather – I live in Canada where it’s -5oC and snowy. I was wondering – what are EFAs?
Kristilyn (My 29th Year) says
How nice that you can dine outside! It’s getting colder here in Canada, so it’s treadmill runs and indoor dining for me. That’s okay though – it’ll sure make me appreciate those 3 days of summer we get! LOL!
Good for you for signing up for a half! I’m doing my first half in December in Las Vegas – I’m very excited about it! I’m slowly working my mileage up and have gotten to 7.2 miles so far – I can’t believe I’ll still have another HOUR of running to go, but it’ll be worth it because 3 months after the half I turn the big 3-0 and will be proud to say I’ve run a half marathon!
