Spring Things

It’s that time of year. My legs are going bare today!!

IMG_9355 (640x427)

Also, these items were just not that fulfilling. Coffee and pumpkin – I will miss you.

IMG_9370 (640x427)

I really wanted a green smoothie or yogurt!!

Guess what the high for today is here in Charlotte?

83*!! SUMMER weather!!

image

I was up at 5 this morning and ready to hit the gym. I love mornings when I’m asleep by 9PM. It makes getting up SO much easier. I wasn’t even sleepy when my alarm went off! I just woke right up.

At the gym I was boring and did 45 minutes on the elliptical (a new Better Homes + Gardens issue got me out of bed! LOVE that magazine!). Followed by 16 chin-ups (assisted) and 16 dips and then some mega foam rolling. I rolled out my shins on the SIDES today and it made such a difference in my foot! My tendons on my surgery foot have been feeling tight and they feel much better now 🙂

Home –> Starvation –> oatmeal! I made a bowl of oats for my preceptor today since she missed crockpot Monday. Put an extra little bit of TLC into the pot! (Hers are just whipped banana chia)

IMG_9365 (640x427)

My Mix

  • 1/3 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/3 cup skim milk
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds (used more today!)
  • 1/2 ripe banana
  • Vanilla, pinch salt
  • 1/2 cup pumpkin (too much!!!)
  • 1 tbsp melted Crofter’s
  • 1 tbsp Naturally Nutty Vanilla PB
  • Galaxy Granola sprinkle

Note I forgot to mention the banana in yesterday’s mix!! Whipped banana oats with no banana….hmmm 🙂

IMG_9364 (640x427)

IMG_9358 (640x427)

IMG_9366 (640x427)

TOTALLY Conan O’Brien’s profile!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IMG_9368 (640x427)

IMG_9356 (640x427)

There are dishes to do!!

Oh how I love that first day of bare legs! It always feels so refreshing. 😀 It’s still chilly and rainy where I live but it’s supposed to reach the 70’s by the end of the week (hurrah!)

Pumpkin might still be good in overnight oats? But I know what you mean, it’s just not the same as it is in the cooler temps. 😀

Do you fill up on yogurt or smoothies? If I do anything but oatmeal I tend to be hungry and snacky. Like you, I want to eat lighter things as the weather is warmer, and had some chobani blueberry yogurt, bear naked granola, and fruit but was still hungry. Thoughts?

I think you have to make the smoothie and yogurt the nutritional equivalent to the oatmeal. So 500 calories vs. a 200 calorie all-fruit one.

I love wearing dresses in the spring and summer, since it is HOT HOT HOT here in Houston, but never do during the week because the AC at work is on FULL blast… and it is freezing cold. I acutally use my space heater a lot more in summer then I do in one month of winter.

Also, I totally see Conan! Nice.

PS Kath, have you ever tried making your own cold-brewed coffee? There was an article in the New York Times about it, and Smitten Kitchen wrote about it too: http://smittenkitchen.com/2008/08/cold-brewed-iced-coffee/ It is seriously amazing stuff–so incredibly flavorful! I wonder if you might like cold-brewed coffee better now that the temps are heating up?
