Say Hello To My Little Friend

IMG_2018 (640x480)

My mom and sister found this little hedgehog Xmas ornament while they were in Maine and it reminded them of the Mrs. Tiggy Winkle ornament I’ve had since I was little.

Matt and I don’t have a name for him, but this little friend has been sneaking around our house for a few weeks now. We’ve been taking turns hiding him in drawers, putting him on towels, in cups, etc. to out-surprise the other.

So this morning I nearly jumped out of my skin to find him ready for a cup of coffee! LOL!

IMG_2017 (480x640)

I had mentally prepared myself for a first-thing-in-the-AM run and woke up to THUNDER!

Rain

The hourly forecast said it will be gone by 10AM so I changed my plans back. So much for being mentally prepared!

To prepare myself for breakfast I did 20 minutes of Heart Opening Flow #1 yoga. My upper body is a bit sore from all those kickboxing punches yesterday and the chest openers felt gooood.

IMG_2023 (480x640)

Being stormy, it was an oatmeal kinda day.

  • 1/3 cup oats, water, soymilk, pinch salt
  • 1 tbsp chia
  • 2 dates
  • 1/2 cup mango, stirred in near end
  • 1/3 cup Daisy cottage cheese, stirred in at end
  • Sliced almonds + salty peanuts
  • Barney Butter sludge

IMG_2024 (480x640)

I have to say, I am really not the biggest fan of fruits other than banana in my oatmeal! I’m not sure if it’s a texture thing or what, but it kind of interrupts the flow. Maybe I’m cutting the pieces too big. Fruit still tastes good, but it’s not my very favorite style.

IMG_2021 (640x480)

I had that delicious cup of coffee

IMG_2025 (480x640)

He almost jumped in!!

IMG_2019 (640x480)

I’m off to do a little research for a project on caffeine this semester!

Then go running.

Then eat lunch.

Then 3 classes.

Later!

    OMG – cutest thing ever!!!

I’m not a big fan of fresh fruit in my oatmeal, other than bananas, either. I like dried figs and apricots – but can’t really get into the fresh berries, mangoes, etc. I think they’re just to tangy for my sweet, creamy bowl of oats…know what I mean?

try adding mango puree! or mango nectar. OR, if you are ever feeling like investing some time, juice a mango and add the pulp! not sure if you have a juicer, but you can achieve the same effect by straining mango puree through cheesecloth. it’s not as much hard work as it sounds like and i suspect it would be totally worth it (and make for a great photo op!) 🙂

LOL that hedgehog is so cute!! Looks real!

I think the problem with some fruits in oatmeal (I almost typed email), is that some fruits just don’t taste good warm, especially tropical ones. I dunno, I’m a ‘nana person 😛

hey – I’m the same with fruit and oats – but what is good is either grated apple or chunks of cooking apple which you cook in the oats and it goes yummy and mushy – fab with lots of cinnamon and raisins.

fruity oats are my favorite – but to each her own! 🙂 one of my favorites if i switch it up from banana is to add mango in the beginning. it takes a bit longer to cook down, but you end up with melty tropical oats – delicious with dried cranberries and coconut!
