Poetry In Motion

Breakfast held me over well this morning – until 11:30 and I was suddenly starving! The husband was due home around noon and I had hoped to eat with him but by 12:15 I had to just dig in.

I had 3 handfuls of cereal while I waited. Grrr!

DSC05332

I had a hard time deciding what to have for lunch because I have to pack my dinner as well. I just started getting things out and came up with this DELECTABLE sandwich: Great Harvest Honey Wheat bread (toasted) with Butter Toffee PB, TJ’s Pumpkin Butter and sliced apple.

DSC05337

I also nuked a tiny little sweet potato (yam?) to have on the side. I found these little ones labeled “jewel yams” at EarthFare. They are the perfect portion for one. Most sweet potatoes are upwards of 300 calories! Drizzled with a little maple and sliced/mashed –

I rounded out the meal with some TJ’s Greek yogurt, ground flax and TJ’s high fiber worms –

‘Twas a delicious lunch.

I finished up eating around 12:45 and came to my computer to find this email in my inbox – guess he’s on the way!

Email Subject: Haikus

Off from fun bread work
Mixer is getting hungry
Oven sleeps for now

Blondie sugar bomb
Beautiful to see and taste
Talking about you

Zippy city bike
Jambles and jumps over curbs
Can barely feel butt

Blue sky, sleepy eyes
High five is crispy with rye
I feel so alive

He is SO much happier these days with his new jobs. He came home from his 8-hour early morning bakery shift yesterday and I asked him “How was work?” His response was “Great!” To have a job that gives that response is awesome. He’s getting more hours at EarthFare soon and will move to his “home” bakery when it opens this weekend. I’m so happy he’s happy!

MICRO CRAMMING FULL SPEED AHEAD!!!

PS. I had NO IDEA it was National Oatmeal Day – how embarassing! 😳

So, Happy Oatmeal Day to you all! Hope you got in your AM fix

 this !

National Oatmeal Day! I actually had oatmeal today and I didn’t even know that it was National Oatmeal Day. My oats were good, too.

Very good Haikus. My husband one wrote a Dr. Suess style poem about his work, it was so cute!

Hey Kath! Are you sure that sweet potatoes have 300 calories? I have researched this, and I’ve found that a large sweet potato (not medium or small) has about 160 calories. Can you tell me where you found that information, because I eat them ALL the time! Thanks. 🙂

🙂 good to hear he’s feeling happy! That’s such a nice treat to get a poem written for you!

The apples with the pumpkin butter looks really yummy. I’ve seen it at the store but didn’t want to buy it cause I didn’t know if it will be good. How is it? Worth a try?

Please people! Do not worry about sweet potatoe calories. They are one of the most nutritious vegetables. People do not get fat by eating too many fruits and vegetables. Stick with a well balanced diet and treats on occasion and you will be find. It really makes me sad and frustrated when people stress about the caloric content of certain foods. Really? Are you that obsessed?

Just my 2 cents. I’ll get yelled at by someone I know.

Glad you guys like the poem 🙂

Re. Sweet potatoes. Kelly is right that they are extremely nutritious and good for you so you should keep eating them! But I posted this tidbit for a little awareness. I have obviously put a sweet potato on my food scale before and the ones that my grocery sells would probably be classified as “extra extra super large” potatoes because they are often 3/4 to 1 lb in weight! That’s nearing 300 calories. They don’t really seem that big to me – maybe the size of a remote control? But they are heavier/denser than you’d think. A 6 oz, 150 calorie potato is more like the size of a computer mouse. No need to count every calorie, but good to be aware.

Just thought I’d share this yummy Halloween treat. I found a delicious looking Halloween “candy” that you could talk yourself into believing is half way healthy, Fig pumpkins! They are alabacita figs filled with a whiskey and clove chocolate ganache, dipped in pumpkin tinted white chocolate. I’m so tempted to order a box!

    what a sweet hubbie!

and potatoes = the devil calorie wise for me. it is the one thing i am not good at judging. a teeny potato has like 200 calories, how is that even possible?!?! but i agree, i wouldn’t stop eating them but it is good to be conscious.

    caitlin,

I never mind Kath sharing anything with the blog. Something that’s really important to me is to speak honestly all the time and say exactly what you mean – going along with that is the willingness to share everything about myself with the world and answer any question.

And in this case, I had a suspicion that she would post the poems if I made ’em funny enough!
