Peep Fuel

We went on quite the adventure this morning!! We figured we biked about 15 miles and ran 4. It was all easy-going and fun. I didn’t really even feel tired until just now – post lunch. My HRM said I burned 800 calories!?!? Although that does include walking around the grocery stores. My heart rate was higher than usual on the biking portions – averaging closer to 130-140 than my usual 100-110. Wonder why? I blame the peeps!

It was such a gorgeous day, and I’m glad we could spend a huge chunk of it enjoying the outdoors.

Stats:

Time: 2:51:26

In Zone: 1:00:51

Avg. HR: 118

Max HR: 180

Kcal: 807

Amazingly, I wasn’t even that hungry for lunch when we got home. But I did have a few dried fruit samples while we were at EarthFare. I decided on a huge salad with some PB&J toast + kiwi.

IMG_4518

A big bed of spinach topped with carrot, zucchini, orange pepper, about 1/4 cup leftover forbidden rice, about 1/4 cup leftover blue cheese slaw, pickles and a drizzle of lemon olive oil and honey.

With a 7-Up. I am loving these. That’s why I never buy them!

Have a sunshiny day 😉

Word. I did 3400 kcal on my ride today. Fueled by: bowl of Cascadian Farms Honey Nut O’s w/ skim milk, a bowl of YOUR oats (thanks for that, they were GREAT), two Dunkin Donuts (one sour cream with glaze and the other chocolate with glaze) and a Dunkin Donuts small coffee w/ skim milk and half a Splenda, a Thomas plain bagel with Wegmans Honey Walnut cream cheese and a bottle of Tropicana Orange Juice — before the ride. During was three bottles of Cytomax Tangy Orange, one chocolate almond fudge Clif bar, one Strawberry Kiwi Accel Gel, one bottle of plain water, plus a stop at a coffee shop for a small coffee (skim milk and half Splenda again) and a mini-chocolate chip cookie.

    I love long rides!

Now to do my taxes . . . NOT looking forward to it.

    Hi Kath –
Since you’re studying to be a R.D., I figure I’d ask you about what happens to the body when it overdoses on sugar/carbs. My husband and I (well, mostly me!) spent the weekend eating cookies, cupcakes, a scone, cookies, and icebox cake! (We checked out a new bakery in New York – we usually don’t eat this many sweets!)
Now after two days of this, I am sitting on my couch and I feel horrible. I feel achy – like I have the flu and extremely fatigued. I know it’s directly related to the food we ate – but could you tell me what exactly is going on with the body and how to alleviate it? Or do I just wait til it goes away?

I feel like I just want to go do 2 hours of cardio to burn off what I ate – but my body is soooo lethargic right now. I feel gross – like a bruised sloth. Sugar is so BAD…..haha, why oh why do I do this to myself?

Oh, my goodness, when I read the post today and heard about you shopping at EarthFare again, I immediately wondered if there was one in Greenville, SC since Charlotte is not too far away. And…, there is one…. Yeah! We are moving there this summer and I’m so excited to have more options for shopping for great food.

    Snake ,
I forgot to mention we SAW YOU TODAY on the greenway!! Slitherin’ across. Maybe a copperhead, but maybe not. I stayed far enough back to not see.

Holy moly – 3400 calories!? Do you wear a HRM of sorts? Glad oatmeal was part of the fuel line-up. Not so sure about the double donuts 😉

    Suzanne ,
I haven’t taken metabolism yet, so I’m not sure of all the sugar effects on a scientific level. I would say maybe it’s the absence of healthy food more than the addition of the sugary food that’s causing the most ill effects? Could also be insulin overload, although some of the nutritionist commenters have said that people with normally functioning insulin levels shouldn’t peak high enough to cause negative effects.

    Shan ,
Check the FAQ page for HRM info.

    Marisa (trim the fat),
Yep – I eat the whole thing.

    maggie ,
    Thanks 🙂
