Organic

Lunch of the earth

IMG_7702 (640x427)

Romaine, pepper, carrots, october beans, avocado, cottage cheese, goat cheese, Garlic Gold

IMG_7700 (640x427) (2)

IMG_7698 (640x427)

With a side of Whole Grain Goodness doughy bread

IMG_7695 (640x427) (2)

And sparkling water…

IMG_7692 (640x427)

IMG_7703 (640x427)

Went to yoga this morning. Much to my delight, Tanner subbed in!! It was 90 minutes of raw, organic flow. Yum!

Post yoga flush had me thirsty and drained of electrolytes

IMG_7687 (640x427) (2)

I fixed that with some OJ cut with water for extra hydration. All the weight loss gurus (including my former self) will tell you NEVER to drink juice because it’s empty sugar calories. Post-yoga, post-run or fancy brunch are 3 occasions juice is totally necessary.

IMG_7684 (640x427) (2)

Played this morning, must work all afternoon.

Hey Kath, I was just remembering the other day about “the Great Thanksgiving Challenge.” That was seriously a HUGE feat and I’m so impressed. I was looking back and trying to find more on how you saved so much and ate so well and was having a hard time. I would LOVE it if you could do a post on how you did it (or if you already have if you could help me find it)- I bet a lot of other readers would benefit as well. Thanks!

Umm, ya. “Empty” sugar calories filled with potassium, vitamin C and folate. Weight loss gurus are idiots. There is nothing wrong with juice ANYtime, not just after working out. The issue is usually quantity as most people do not stick to a 1/2 cup serving.

I see no problem in drinking 100 % natural juice as long as you watch your portions. I drink OJ for breakfast, and have been drinking OJ since I was a kid (am now 34) and It never prevented me from losing weight. Freshly squeezed is even better.

I meant to ask this the other day but totally forgot….you mentioned alcohol makes you gian weight? Why is that? Is it that it is extra calories for the day or is there something specific to the calories coming from alcohol?

Stepping in to give my two cents – alcohol causes me to gain a couple pounds in water weight, but once I flush my system my weight goes back to normal.

It’s more than just water weight for me. A few drinks don’t make a difference, but if I increase my drinking to a drink a night (EVEN if I’m within maintenance calories!) I just feel myself putting on fat in my middle. When we learned about alcohol in my metabolism courses, everything about it led to lipogenesis (although I can’t remember the details off the top of my head – something about promoting insulin and the 10 calories per gram and other metabolic effects) so it makes sense. Might not be true for everyone, but I definitely notice a difference over time. I did just come off a beach vacation of 7 days worth of drinking AND desserts, so it doesn’t help that they go hand-in-hand too.

October beans are such a nice heirloom variety – I never knew how many kinds of beans there were until I moved to the South.
I try to limit my juice intake, too. Too much sugar, not enough fiber. My partner and I recently scored a bunch of just-thrown out, not-expired Odwalla juice from a dumpster, and while he downed about 14 of them in two days flat, I just mixed a little limeade with my water. Old fear I guess, leftover from eating disorder days, but maybe it is mixed with a bit of fact.
