Orange Ya Glad It’s Friday!?

dsc00095.JPG

Since I was out of lab early last night, I was able to get in bed early and got up at 5:00 for spinning this morning! I always leave the gym feeling satisfied after a hard spinning workout. Before I left – a frozen banana walnut scone with PB – (note the plate not even planned to be part of the orange theme!)

dsc00091.JPG

Breakfast was pumpkin oats with granola and a big water enjoyed in our neon living room

 this !

dsc00092.JPG

Mixture:

  • 1/3 cup oats
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1/2 a banana
  • Vanilla
  • Pinch salt
  • 1/2 a cup pumpkin, heated and stirred into bowl
  • 1/4 cup granola
  • Spoonful PB

I have to admit, I liked the first batch of granola more. The honey made it stickier, the brown sugar a bit buttery and I think the higher temp actually made the oats crunchier than this batch. But kudos to Sarah inventing the recipe – it’s delicious either way!

And for the record, I had a small bowl of granola with milk last night before bed. I was feeling kind of empty inside –

Happy Friday!

love the theme! I know you spin at least once a week. do you have the spin shoes? or rock it out without them?

    DaisyMay ,
Yes I have spin shoes and love them. I bought them after my third class when I knew I was hooked and that tennis shoes weren’t cooperating on the bike. My pair were pretty inexpensive (compared to the fancy ones) – about $55? They’ve served me well for the past 3 years 🙂

Yeah I used to be all about spinning but seriously it kills my feet. Sometimes they go numb by the end. i guess i was more worried about the cost of them. but 55 dollars is pretty managable

Try it with the shoes. When you don’t have your feet in the cages, there are less pressure points so your feet might feel better. Also, with the shoes you can pull up as well as push down so that can help too. Good luck!

Boy, I’m behind the times, I didn’t even know there was such a thing as spin shoes!

Hey Kath, when/why did you cut down to 1/3c oats instead of you former usual 1/2c oats? Sorry if I missed that one.

Kath, I noticed that your dinner yesterday night had no carbs. Maybe that is why the empty feeling. By the way, I eat my food with yogurt too and I love dal with pita.

We have a class at my gym called 300 and You. CRAZYNESS!! I leave each workout sore and exhuasted and dripping in sweat…I LOVE IT!
It’s taken from the movie 300 (I’ve never seen it but apparently they workout at these different stations and it’s super instense) Has anyone seen that movie? Well that’s what we do…it’s a mixture of strength and cardio. It’s similar to a boot camp class but I think this one is more enjoyable and exciting b/c everyone is cheering everyone on to not give up. It’s great!

I’ve been spinning for a bit now and I’m thinking about getting a pair of shoes for it soon. I can’t stand those feet strap things!

I do an outdoor “boot camp” 4X/week and LOVE it! It is a high intensity mix of cardio, strength training, resistance, ab and core work. It’s always different and challenging, and our trainer is very encouraging. The small group setting provides accountability and makes it fun!

I always see those outdoor boot camp classes during my morning run. They look fun! I wish I was more of a class person but I like working out on my own.

Kath, I’m inspired to try make some granola now!

    Kate ,
I cut back on oats if I’m going to add back 1/4 cup wheatberries or 1/4 cup granola to replace the missing oats. Otherwise I still eat 1/2 a cup. But I also haven’t needed to get through 5 hours of class, so I like having a smaller portion some days if I’m going to exercise in 1-2 hours.

    Sonia ,
That was my guess too – and probably why I was craving them.

    I love orange 🙂

I think I’m going to try my next batch of granola with honey instead of maple syrup; I’m needing to make more sooner because my Other Half is adding it to his morning yogurt!

I have some maple extract, I might try some of that to see if it enhances the maple flavor.

Ha, ha, Kelly T, I thought the same thing! But it would take much more than a little granola to fill the black hole from which emo kids suffer …

I find spinning painfull. After I go to class, my bottom is numb and sore and it stays like that for a couple of days. My legs are fine though.
