Solo Dining

The house was getting a little claustrophobic from being home during the day all week, so I combined a few errands with lunch out for a change. I went to a new bistro  I hadn’t tried that has a light menu with build-your-own salads and a few sandwiches along with a case of fancy desserts and long list of wine. While the food tasted really good, it was a little overpriced and I wanted more veggie options for my salad!

I got a base of spinach and arugula along with carrots, artichokes, asparagus, and tomatoes (the only real veggies on the list), feta on the side and seared tilapia on top as the “protein.”

The tilapia was golden brown and crunchy – probably cooked in a bath of oil but very delicious!

The dressing was an orange-champagne vinaigrette. It tasted like a strawberry margarita!

I ate half each of the feta and dressing and cleared the fish and veggies.

I’m not sure I’d go back just because I could get an EarthFare salad bar salad for less, but I guess I’ll give it another try sometime since the fish and dressing were superb.

I also traveled to Trader Joe’s and Target for some supplies. Looks like with the TJ’s trip and the CSA delivery we can skip our grocery store trip this weekend. Hopefully we can stretch until next week, but we’re low on fruit so I might have to make a quick stop.

I’m off to find a snack!

    Hi,
This is just a random question…I went to see an endocronolgist today re: my recent weight gain(since October) and the difficulty that I’m having in losing it. I am not technically overweight…just a little heavy for me. He suggested that my diet consist of 50 % carbs, 30% fat and 20% protein. Kath…I am wondering if this is what you do? Also..is there a certain amount of calories that you try and stick to a day? I know that you aren’t technically counting them anymore…but I know you were before. THANKS!

Is it weird that I don’t like to eat at restaurants alone? Guess I just get lonely/bored…or maybe I feel embarassed cuz I’m alone, who knows! 🙂

I love eating alone. Especially sitting at the bar! You get great service and it’s a nice time to relax.

Hahah I hate how things that are cooked in a “bath of oil” usually tastes so good–dammit!

Looks delish. Way to go for veering off the usual and trying out a new place. Good to see Kath throw caution to the wind! 🙂

I, too, love eating alone. Not all the time, but sometimes it is so great.

    kwaze ,
I’ve tracked percentages because it gets pretty confusing but based on my experience with my food dairy that I kept for a few years, I usually got 50-60% carbs and about 25% of fat and protein. But that’s very general – sometimes I’d be 15% and 35% when I would check a specific day. I try to balance my meals when I’m choosing what to eat based on food groups – aiming for at least 4-5 different ones (veggies, grains, fruit, dairy, healthy fats). I find that a lot easier way to create balanced meals with variety than thinking about numbers.

I probably eat between 1700-1900 calories per day and 2300-2500 on occasion.

    HTH…

    Kath
