Oh, Canada

Went to cycle class this morning!!! I haven’t been in ages, but I used to go 3-4 times a week when my foot was recovering from surgery. I get sick of it easily now, but I do love a good class every now and then.

Today’s theme was the Olympics! In addition to all the Olympic + American music, he played the Canadian National Anthem. Did you know I know all the words!?!

Matt’s college roommate, appropriately nicknamed "Canada," is from Toronto, so Matt and I memorized the words to please him.

Here they are in 2001 sporting their countries. Don’t ask.

Canada II

Cycle was good! I kept the resistance a bit easier to let my legs spin out yesterday’s run.

Came home and was TOTALLY ready for this awesome breakfast!!

I love the Canadian national anthem…I find it to be very stirring and I love listening to the full arena singing along. After the great game the Canadian hockey players put on last night I’m sure a lot of people are singing the good ol song today.

Yesterday was a VERY exciting day for us Canadians – we won 4 medals and played a great game of hockey against Russia last night!!

And yes, I know all of the words to my national anthem 😉

True story: I was working on Canada Day in 2002 at the CN Tower. Some of the guests asked me if I knew the words and if I would sing it for them. I am by no means an excellent singer, but I sung those words with pride!! They even clapped for me when I was done, probably because they didn’t have to hear my voice any more! Anyway, it made me feel very proud of my country and to be a Canadian!

First, new here but enjoy reading your blog! Second, OK can someone please explain the oats thing to me? I’m new to the whole healthy eating/running/blogging scene and I’m kind of confused haha. I’ve had the instant Quaker kind before-they’re ok and all, but I feel like I’m missing something?

Super random… I always stare at the photos of mid-pouring coffee. Makes me want caffeine. Love it.

So I’m wondering….do you feel okay when you go straight from bed to the gym without eating? I am usually too nervous to try it, afraid I won’t have the energy for a good, strong workout. Do you recommend one versus the other (ie eating vs not) from a nutritional standpoint? Is there any added advantage to exercise on an empty stomach?

    🙂 Thanks

Yes, I do feel OK or I would eat something! I also would fuel up if I were going to do a really hard or long workout. The reason I don’t eat first is I’ve found through trial that I’m mostly thirsty when I wake up. So I guzzle my water bottle while I’m exercising and that’s enough to delay breakfast by an hour.

Generally workouts less than 60 minutes don’t require any kind of fuel loading like a longer 10 mile run would.

Eating or not is totally up to you and your timing and hunger!

I just bought some of the Bob’s apple cinnamon hot cereal. I hadn’t thought about mixing part of that with my oatmeal. I’m going to give that a try.
