Oat Polka

IMG_2153Blog

Morning y’all!

My nose is running a marathon right now.

My oats are dancing a polka.

I’m feeling kind of blah, although the combo of clouds + Christmas music makes the lack of sunshine OK.

AND I found the debit card that went missing on Friday night – it was at a shop I visited a week ago!! Ahhh! That’s what I get for knowing my numbers by heart and rarely checking my wallet.

IMG_2155Blog

These oats were great, although after a week of rolled oats I noticed how Coach’s Oats are definitely not as sweet! Lots of chew though, which makes up for it.

IMG_2158Blog

The mix:

  • 1/3 cup Coach’s Oats
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • Half banana
  • 1/2 tbsp chia seeds
  • Pinch salt
  • Cinnamon
  • 1/3 cup pumpkin, stirred in at end
  • Crumbled Chocolate Cherry Hungry Bar
  • Sunflower butter

IMG_2171Blog

Chestnut!!!!!!!!!

IMG_2164Blog

Have a fabulous Monday!

My first bowl of oatmeal of the winter season was eaten this morning. By me.
I added one banana and blackberries, with almond milk. Was it ever delicious! I will be eating oatmeal until March, when Spring shows its pretty little head. Then it’s back to cold cereal.

Kath, I recently stumbled upon this blog and enjoy it very much! As a newly nursing mama, nutrition has taken an even bigger priority in my life. I have begun to eat steel cut oats every day, and I have had fun taking cues from you by adding different things to my bowl for variety. Question for you, I am allergic to bananas, is there an alternative fruit to act as an emulsifier in those whipped oats? I am also avoiding my husband’s allergies right now in hopes of sparing our daughter, so nut butters are off the table. Any ideas are appreciated!

Happy Herbivore has an blog on substituting bananas – Check out her blog, she has a search button on the bottom of her home page and I think it’s the second listing. In the meantime, applesauce works well, silken tofu, (they have dessert varieties, mango, apricot) or avocado if you like that.

Hey Kath! So I work in a family run business and they are closed on a lot of holidays that other places are not: the Fourth of July, Christmas Eve, Easter, Labor Day, etc. Even missing those days can be tough on MY budget, so I was just wondering how your employees feel about missing an entire week of work? I wouldn’t be able to pay my rent! I know everyone needs a vacation, I just feeling some empathy for them and their bills. I really hope this didn’t sound snarky, as that is definitely not my intent.

Most probably that’s when the employees use up their vacation pay? So they’re not out a week’s wages.

A few things without going into too much detail because I think business decisions are somewhat private but… we’re actually having trouble staffing that week because everyone wants vacation time….we told everyone when they were hired that we’d be closed that week so it’s not a surprise…and we’re giving Christmas bonuses.
