Nutz For Grog

Exercised first this morning because I’ve got a busy day ahead. I’m meeting Lauri at EarthFare for a study session before our 2PM Metabolism exam and have class until 8PM.

When I mentally prepare myself for exercising first, it’s never a big deal. I just GO. It’s the days when I have the option to stay home that make me wishy washy. I wasn’t hungry when I got up so I was at the gym within 20 minutes of getting out of bed at 7:15. [Notice I said “getting out of bed” because I have to read emails, comments and a few blogs before I can get up 😉 ]

At the gym I did a circuit of cardio since tomorrow is a Sculpt day. 30 minutes on the ET, 15 on the Stepmill and 10 on the Stat bike. I enjoyed reading Health and Natural Health – two of my favs! I noticed a blurb about Lipton’s Rainforest Alliance certification in NH. Hard to believe I was there this year.

I got home at 8:30, showered, and made myself pretty. I spent a little extra time on my hair and outfit today since it’s a rainy day. Don’t want the drear to get to me!

Breakfast was pretty too!

IMG_5375 (640x427)

The highlight was this new coffee – from San Marco Coffee – called Highlander Grog I was sent to sample. They roast the beans right here in Charlotte and have over 275 different FLAVORS! Pumpkin Spice, Coconut Cream, Almond Cookie, Banana Foster – holy moly! I love flavored coffee, so choosing one was a dream. I went with the Grog because it was on their best sellers list and has all of my favorite flavors: Butterscotch liqueur, caramel and a hint of hazelnut.

IMG_5369 (640x427)

The aroma was incredible –

IMG_5373 (640x427)

The flavor wasn’t quite as strong as the smell, but I still liked it a lot.

IMG_5379 (640x427)

My oatmeal was amazing as well.

IMG_5386 (640x427)

Of course the star was the Nuttzo, but I also really enjoyed the Glo-nola topping! This is all that’s left of my Glo-nola bag because the rest was nibbled through by Matt and I when we got it!

The oat mix:

  • 1/3 cup oats, milk, water, pinch salt
  • 1/2 medium ripe banana
  • 2 tbsp wheatberries
  • Vanilla + cinnamon stirred in at end
  • Blob of Nuttzo

The Nuttzo crunch rocked.

The oatmeal was actually a very different texture + consistency as usual. It was watery and more gelled. I couldn’t figure out why and I realized it’s probably because I didn’t add chia seeds today. It is confirmed: chia seeds make oatmeal’s texture even less gelled – surprisingly since they are gellers themselves.

IMG_5374 (640x427)

WIN IT!

I haven’t done a contest in a while. Who wants some San Marco Coffee?? Leave a comment with the flavor you’d choose (a plain one is OK!) and you can win a $10 gift certificate for a free pound bag.

[NOTE: I won’t be answer>ing comments on this post!]

    The GROG flavor sounds divine!

When I schedule exercise as part of my routine/to do list, I tend to just do it and not even think twice. I do struggle when I don’t have a planned workout, I tend to put it off and then not do it.

At this point I’d choose any flavor whatsoever! I’m studying abroad in Morocco and they’ve got great coffee here but no flavored coffee to be found anywhere. I usually pack some with me but I didn’t have any room in my luggage this time around.
