Nurture Your Heart With Pumpkin Oats

No ice 🙁 (But I guess that is good!)

But we are on a 1 hour delay, which meant I could enjoy my bowl of Pumpkin Oats in happy calm time.

IMG_5198 (640x427)

I tried adding the pumpkin AND an egg white in the beginning of cooking. I always stir my pumpkin in at the end and wanted to see if I could save a step. The oats turned out really thick and almost baked – which may have been the egg’s fault and not the pumpkin’s! Again, I’m changing too many variables to draw any conclusions. But I think I’ll stick to adding the pumpkin at the end since I like liquidy oats. But if you like them thick, this would be your cup of tea.

IMG_5178 (640x427)

In the pot:

  • 1/3 cup rolled oats
  • 1/3 cup soy milk
  • 1/2 cup water (I now add a bit more water to buy me a bit more time for a more liquidy bowl)
  • 1 tbsp chia
  • 1 tbsp raisins
  • 1/2 mashed banana (I actually missed the chunks a bit!)
  • 1 egg white
  • Cinnamon + vanilla (stirred in at end)
  • Toppings: Mix My Granola Cinnamon Banana + Vanilla Sunflower Butter!!!

We welcomed this new addition to our family this week. Naturally Nutty sent me some samples to review and this was in the mix. I’ve never had sunflower butter, but I’ve heard some raves about it. Well combine it with Cinnamon and Vanilla and you’ve got one heck of a nut butter. Nothing short of cinnamony vanilla frosting!

IMG_5197 (640x427)

IMG_5194 (640x427)

I had that cup of tea today – The Tea Spot’s Bolder Breakfast = black tea with chocolate!

IMG_5176 (640x427)

Really, really like this reusable Tuffy steeper!!

IMG_5180 (640x427)

The tea was really great. I find teas to be totally hit or miss. I either love it or hate it. I loved this one because the chocolate was in the aroma and the tea was not bitter at all. It smelled just like a cup of hot cocoa!

IMG_5185 (640x427)

Since I didn’t have a coffee shape, I though I’d entertain your eyes with new candles 🙂

IMG_5188 (640x427)

Gosh that was a great breakfast, but I’m still feeling a little hungry!! Better settle fast!

Happy Friday Kath! Do you whip up your egg white before adding it? Does it get ‘eggy’ in the oats??

    • Kath says

      February 5, 2010 at 7:03 am

I just dumped it in and stirred. The oats didn’t taste very eggy, but I didn’t add the yolk. I think the yolk would contribute that factor.

Question – I measure my raisins too and usually add a tablespoon. Do you pack your raisins into the tablespoon or just put them in loosely? I’m not sure what’s the correct way to measure raisins, even when its in a recipe – pack or loose?

I have used it for three years and it amazing, made of very fine stainless steel mesh, makes amazing tea and I use the “lid” with it not as a lid but to rest the basket on after so doesn’t drip .

Makes amazing tea, highly recommend it.Be awesome if you checked that out for your online store!

I’m super jealous over the chocolatey tea. And I’ve never been jealous over tea before.. but that sounds great!

I’m more of a runny oats kinda girl. And I was actually going to ask you what you thought of the technique of mashing the banana up before adding to the oats rather than slicing the banana and whipping it in. I’ve tried both but I prefer the whipping method, it made my oats more creamy.

Pumpkin is my new addiction when it comes to oats!! How much did you add to your oats today? I love the combination of combining 1/2 cup oats, raisins, ~1 cup of water…adding chopped banana halfway through and milk, then adding 1/2 cup of pumpkin towards the end of the cooking. Seasoned with Cinnamon and Nutmeg!!! The best!!! I sometimes like to put an eggwhite in the beginning

Pumpkin at the beginning definitely solidifies the oats. I do this (without the egg white addition) and get a gel-like oatmeal. I love it, but because you like liquidy oats I’d definitely stick to stirring the pumpkin at the end. Also, when you stir in things like cottage cheese and pumpkin, does it cool down the oats too much? Always been curious about this…
