No Time For Munching

I feel like I could start every lunch post I’m here with “Popping in to say hello!’” Because that’s what it’s like. I’m in and out of our office all day, running around here and there.

IMG_0849 (640x427)

I’ve never experienced intuitive eating as much as this. Arrive at work. Get distracted. Eat breakfast. Work until you realize you need nourishment. Eat lunch. Work until you realize your stomach is growling again. Have a quarter of savannah bar or slice of bread. Bike home. Eat dinner. They say most Great Harvest owners lose weight when they open despite being surrounded by delicious bread + sweets. There just isn’t time to sit around munching!

A little preplanning to make this salad was SOOO worth the Sunday afternoon kitchen work. It totally hit the spot!! Recipe here –> Lemony Lentil Salad.

IMG_0859 (640x427)

So did my first taste of Cosmic Brownie! After watching customers eat the drippy chocolate chips all morning, I needed to give it a taste. Perfection!!

IMG_0860 (640x427)

Have a great afternoon!

When I’m busy at work I can easily forget to eat my snacks or lunch — but when I’m not busy then all I can do is think about my next meal. I’m not surprised you’ve been waiting until your stomach growls! There seems to be so much to do!

I can definitely attest that I feel more “intuitive” about my eating habits when I’m busy! I think that’s the key! I’ve got a desk job right now, so I’m constantly munching out of boredom, but on the rare days I’m physically on-my-feet busy all day, I only eat when I realize, “hey, my stomach’s growling!” or “hey! I haven’t eaten in eight hours! Maybe I should find dinner…”

When I visited Central Europe this past March, we were so busy being shoveled from one place to another with performances and sight-seeing that we rarely kept to traditional meal times. And my appetite threw me for a loop while there, and I really only ate when I was hungry, and only enough to satisfy. And I only ate what I was in the mood for, which ended up being stuff like Nutella crepes from a street cart in Prague or a custard-filled pastry at a convenience store en route to Vienna. And despite the plethora of pastries, potatoes, and pasta I had on that trip, I left after the end of the week with loose pants. Some might say it was the extra activity. I was wearing my pedometer the whole time and my daily activity only marginally increased and was not enough to account for the loss. But when I actually wrote down everything I (remembered) eating, I ended up eating about 200-400 calories FEWER than I normally do on any given day!

Strangely, when I am at college I feel the same way about eating! You have classes and work to fill up the day, and you basically eat every meal with someone, so you end up never really obsessing about food. Also, just having to share a mini fridge with someone else really limited how much food I could keep in the room, which turned out to be a good thing!

And now that I am at home and blogging, food def. comes up in my thoughts more.

I lost so much wait waitressing, despite eating calzones the size of my head and fried zucchini allll day long. I walked MILES around the restaurant though. Despite snacking a little at the bakery, I do eat a lot less than when I’m at home. The problem is when I come home and I have all these beautiful sweets sitting next to me :).

Well, if there is T H A T much interest, it sells out in minutes and there are so many people trying to get tickets that the website crashes, maybe next year you can plan a larger main group event with several smaller (repeated) break away one hour sessions for people to sign up for throughout the day. While the presenters will miss the other presentations, a greater number of people will be able to attend and gain a lot from the experience. Also, you could professionally videotape the program and sell DVDs for those who could not attend. Who knows, you could have over a thousand people signing up which surely would attract lots more big sponsors!

She asks him and he’d like gum? And he answers: “Gum is perfection!”
