Make Believe

I very much wanted it to be 85 degrees outside as we departed for the market.

IMG_0987Blog-2

Turns out it was closer to 45. Winter coat was necessary. Imagination used.

IMG_0988Blog

But we did our best to pretend it was summer! There were no tomatoes, but there were lots of plants and arts and crafts.

FarmersmarketBlog

We only picked up some Jam According To Daniel and some paperwork on a FISH CSA that we might join!

IMG_0992Blog

Here we are getting back on our bikes to bike home:

IMG_0993Blog

I went to Body Pump after the market (1 block away!). It was a new release (#77?) so all new songs. I liked it! Got a great workout, and ended things with 20 minutes of sweating on the stairmaster while reading about myself in Breathe!

IMG_5804Blog

My latest nutrition column article: “Getting Cultured On Probiotics”

IMG_5805Blog-2

There’s me!

IMG_5806Blog

Breathe is also a really fun magazine to browse through – lots of good content.

IMG_5797Blog

Lunchtime! I can’t get enough eggs lately

IMG_5801Blog

I had one sunny side up with smoked paprika and parmesan

IMG_5791Blog-2

On top of leftover sweet potato beans + rice from last week plus some lettuce

IMG_5799Blog

Carrots + toast on the side

IMG_5795Blog

Buttered Cranberry Orange that was SO good as my dessert!! This bread is over 10 days old and was STILL delicious (toasted).

IMG_5792Blog

IMG_5802Blog

It is sunshining and raining at the same time – I think the Devil must be beating his wife..

Homework time!

you inspired me to ‘egg’speriment (haha, cheezy) with eggs the other day on my sandwich. I cooked one over medium, put it between to slices of bread w/ cheese, lettuce, tomato, & cesar dressing & then pressed the sandwich on the panini grill. it was ‘egg’cellent! (ok, ok i’ll stop now)

Have you tried slicing and the freezing your Great Harvest breads? I wonder if that’s too much exposure to the cold and if it will affect the taste of the bread when thawed. I’ve been following the opening of the GH in Kirkwood, MO. Since I won’t likely be able to get there every week, I wondered about freezing the bread and then using it for toast and toasted/grilled sandwiches. Just wondering if you’ve tried it!

We have frozen whole loaves no problem – they come back out just fine. I haven’t ever froze a sliced loaf though. I imagine all the in and out of the freezer to get a slice might be too much for it. But what you could do is cut the loaf in half (or thirds) and free those big hunks and take those as each week as you need them?

Thanks Kath. My only problem with freezing it unsliced is that I’m a horrible bread slicer! 🙂

I think you are right, though…the in/out opening of the bag might be a bit too much. I’m looking forward to the store opening in Kirkwood. It’s not too far from work…I bet I’ll be visiting them more than I think!

Actually it’s easier to cut frozen! You just need to have a good knife. It slices straight down 🙂

Michelle – I’ve frozen sliced “toaster sized” loaves (whole loaves, as well as half of a loaf) and taken them back out – and they are just fine. I haven’t taken out slices off of a frozen loaf – that might be too much. But freezing the sliced loaves works beautifully! I keep them in the GH bag and then wrap gently in aluminum foil before putting in the freezer.
