Long Live Early Mornings

Now that I have 2 hours back in my life, and now that I don’t have to be at work until 9AM, I’m switching back to AM workouts. Super excited to have my evenings back! This works so much better with Matt’s schedule too since he’s gone in the mornings and wants to eat dinner early at 6 so he can get off to bed. I should be sticking with this schedule for the next 2 months and then things might change again when I move onto the hospital, which has an earlier start.

I started the day with some much-needed YOGA at 5:30AM! I woke up pretty stiff in the joints from my run yesterday. It’s funny how the first 15 minutes of yoga you think that you’ll never work out the kinks. But by the end of 45 minutes to an hour, everything is moving again. I felt EONS better after the end of my 60 minute YogaDownload Dave Farmar Vinyasa for Beginners. This is a great class to start with if you are new to Vinyassa or Dave Farmer style.

I laid on one of Emily’s old yoga mats during our interval workout last week and had forgotten how thin they were. Love the Aurorae mat I was sent to review. It’s thick and the little balls make a great non-stick and cushiony base.

IMG_6017 (640x427)

When I headed back up to shower, I woke up sleeping beauty for breakfast. Since we were both grumps yesterday morning, he made me breakfast today for Valentine’s 🙂

Perrrrfect pumpkin!!!

Matt’s Mix (with a little advice from moi 🙂 )

  • 1/3 cup oats, vanilla soy milk, water, pinch salt
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1/2 tbsp chia seeds
  • 1/2 cup pumpkin stirred in at end
  • TJ’s trail mix
  • Justin’s Maple Almond Butter
  • Drizzle maple syrup

IMG_6023 (640x427)

Love how the chocolate bits from the trail mix melt right into the oats!

I spy…with my little eye….

A few many weeks ago I had a videographer come to my house from Open Sky to record some videos for my store. They went up this weekend – including one on the main page. Look for the new thumbnail to indicate a video.

  • Wheatberries
  • Cali bowls
  • Chia seeds
  • French press
  • Chop Chop Bamboo
  • And GARMIN + POLAR (<— I know you guys have been asking for this for ages!)

Fun times!

Have a WONDERFUL DAY!

Such cool Open Sky clips. I’m really enjoying that site- such a cool concept.

I have decided to try a yoga podcast for the first time this week! I have very little to no exposure to yoga but I feel that my body and muscles would really appreciate it. 🙂

I am loving YogaDownload! So far, I have only tried the free 20 minute classes. I really liked the Yoga for Weight Loss and was surprised at how hard it was for me! I never really thought of yoga as a “workout”, but whew, it sure is!

Glad to hear you have your mornings back – I don’t know what I’d do without the extra time in the AM to get my work out in (probably just break up my running into two 15-minute sessions).

Your oats always look phenomenal~ makes me hungry everytime I visit the blog, haha.

I just found a local Coop (It’s like a Whole Foods that’s a mile from my dorm!!!) that sells chia seeds and bought a small bag to try them, and I was wondering if you let them soak a bit before you put them in your oatmeal / SIAB’s or if you just toss them in as they are.

And do you use Greek or regular yogurt in your overnight oats / SIABs?
Thanks in advance, have a great day!

I just toss the chias in, but I bet a short soak would help the texture thicken some.

I use greek yogurt all the time!

They’re so easy – all you have to do it put the steel-cut oats in the crock pot overnight, and in the morning you have the most creamy, and delicious oats ever!!! Then, I just mix whatever I want into them, and pop them in the microwave for about 30 seconds just to get them nice and hot!
I highly recommend trying it! They were probably the best oats I’ve ever had, and they were so easy!

Kath please help me come up with a solution for a busy morning. I want oatmeal and creamy rice just does not cut-it. I am anemic as heck. We are not sure on my other nutritional levels, yet. I am avoiding eggs and dairy. I can tolerate soy but due to my age am alternating with almond, rice, and soy milk as not to get too much soy. If you can spare anytime I would so appreciate it.
