Late Lime Lunch

There was lime all over my lunch – in the chili, in the quesadilla, in my glass – well, I guess it wasn’t on my apple

 this !

Wow, my hot dog and fries really held me over well today! Perhaps this will become a breakfast staple! I got home from classes at 12:45 and was just started to get pretty hungry.

On the menu –

Leftover Cocoa-Coconut Chili. Still as good as it was Sunday night

Plus a mini quesadilla made with shredded Italian cheese, jalapeno, cumin and avocado.

Before:

After:

dsc07720.JPG

And an apple sliced with cinnamon. It was a great crunchy apple!

From above –

Lunch was about 550 kcal, 23 grams fiber and 24 grams protein.

I’d like to do some baking this afternoon, but studying is taking priority. I’ve got a short to-do list with one killer one: “Memorize the physiology of the nervous and muscular systems.” Bugh!

Adios for now!

Kath, I’m not sure if you ever mentioned this, but while you were losing weight how many calories did you usually shoot for a day? I think I have a very similar build to you so I was just curious. Your lunch looks fabulous! =)

Okay, this might be a weird one, but I have another questions for Kath and everyone:

I’ve noticed as I’ve lost weight that although I have more energy, love feeling healthy, enjoy excercise, etc, etc, I’m starting to miss my old chubbier body. I’ve especially noticed this in my stomach. I guess I found some comfort in my little potbelly. As my stomach gets more and more concave, I find myself less able to get cuddly on the couch or in bed (less body fat?) Has anyone else experienced any sort of ‘mourning’ of their old bodies?

    Katers,
I actually have experienced that as well!! haha i thought i was crazy! i love being slimmer and don’t ‘miss’ being chubbier for various reasons but especially when I cross my arms and theres not a fuller stomach/bust there its weird. So stranges how when we are curvier we want nothing more than to lose the weight and when its gone you feel like something is missing.

I def. agree as well! My husband loves that I lost 20lbs, but there isn’t much to cuddle with anymore 🙁 And also… maybe it’s TMI, but not as much in the chest area either!! That really upsets him… I guess thats just what happens when ya lose weight.

I’ll deal. I’m happier thinner, I know that for sure!

    Katers & Jenna,

Me too! Not that I ever want to go back there (I have lost 70lbs) but there are times when my behind hurts from sitting or my hip bone jabs into my bed when I roll over and I think, “Hmm I kinda miss my padding.” lol. And I do have to be honest that I miss my breats ALOT. Went from a size 36D to a 34B, but it was a small price to pay for being healthy and happy! Plus my mother says they are still “proportional” haha.

    Kath,
Lunch looks wonderful. I love lime! Good luck studying!! I’m sure you will be fine!

Interesting conversation here. I’m still losing weight, so maybe I’m not there yet … but I love that I have no “padding.” I still have a big butte, so my fiance is happy but I love it when I put my arms around myself and feel muscle instead of fat!

Okay, I have a stupid question for everyone. I cut my index finger pretty badly making my husband a sandwich at lunch … It bled for awhile and it really hurts, but we decided it wasn’t quite bad enough for stitches.
Sooo … I was planning to do some time on the elliptical and run on the treadmill for awhile this afternoon. Even typing hurts, so should I skip exercises that use my hands? Even low impact ones like the elliptical? And, could running start the bleeding again?
All dumb, I know, but I don’t want to miss my workout or make my finger worse.
    Thanks!

    OFF TOPIC..

Has anyone ever been able to get an accurate calorie count on sushi? Like per piece, or whatever. I just ate some and now I would like to know how many calories I have leftover for ice cream salad.

Ok I’m a little confused and I’m wondering if anyone on here knows the answer, what ultimatley makes you gain weight, carbohydrate or calories? Let’s say my diet was 90% carb 10% protein (don’t worry its not) but I was within my net calorie range every day, would I gain weight? Or does it not matter where my calories come from in regards to weight gain as long as I dont eat any more calories than I burn?

kiala – calorie king has all that info — but it differs depending on the type of roll….i.e., california roll is 360kcal/6g fat for 12 pieces, spicy tuna is 449 kcal/11g fat for 12 pieces, rainbow roll is 489 kcal/9g fat for 12 pieces…. dont know how accurate that is, but it sounds right to me i guess.

i adore sushi and eat it every chance i get, but i always find that even if i eat a crapload of it, i am hungry a little later. has anyone here tried asking for it with brown rice instead of white? does that make it more filling b/c of the fiber??

    angel –

i dont know the total answer to your question, but i do know (or at least i have heard and experienced) that if you eat mostly carbs or mostly protein you will not be as satisfied and may end up eating more since your body will be craving the protein/carbs that you didnt have enough of, even if you have met your calorie amount… so you should aim for a balance of lean protein, carbs (thru whole grains, fruits, veggies), and good fats and you will feel full longer and be less likely to go over calories.

    does that make sense?

I’ve tried asking for brown rice at several sushi places and none of the ones here seem to have it (at least that I’ve found). When we’ve sat at the sushi bar and I’ve had to ask the chef directly, they seem a little offended. 🙁

ppp- thanks for your answer, that makes sense and actually I understand that if you achieve a balance you will experience the best satiety, I was just wondering in regards to carbs, if I would gain weight if they compromise a larger than recommended part of my diet. I eat a lot of fruits and vegetables and get about 65% of my diet in carbohydrates consistently and I’m wondering if this will lead to weight gain even if I’m consistently within my net calorie amount because I’m getting over the recommended amount of carbs

angel – i would think you would be fine and wouldnt gain weight with 65% carbs, especially if a large portion of your carbs are from veggies/fruits.
I actually eat very similarly to you (my husband tried the no-carb thing and went crazy on him because it was SO hard to cook things without carbs, since i LOVE them so — thankfully that phase has ended for him!), and I have maintained a very healthy weight for years (135-40 at 5’7″) and am pleased with my body. Anyway, thats my two cents!! 🙂

    NC-
that is funny that the sushi chefs get offended by asking for brown rice– they probably think it takes away from the traditional recipe/flavor? i have actually been too embarrased to ask for brown rice because i am afraid they will look at me like i am crazy! hah.

    ppp,
Regarding asking for brown rice-you wouldn’t be able to. They use white “sushi rice” which is a specific kind of rice (well more so, prepared in a specific way) that makes it sticky to keep the rolls together. If they made it with brown rice then it would all just fall apart! Unfortunately you can’t prepare brown rice the same way you can sushi rice (which is essentially continuously washing the rice until the starch is gone) so if you eat sushi you’re going to have to keep the rice white!

mags-i deal with the exact same issue each and every night and have a history that could almost read like yours. i dont know what the answer is but i feel that i’ve abused my body by over/under eating so long and finally i have been trying to fix it with help. its so hard but i think putting my faith in the support i have is what ive got to do.
most of the doctors i talk to talk about once your weight is at a certain point, (healthy), you should no longer have the desire to binge.

Actually mine WAS brown rice sushi from Whole Foods. Salmon roll…just salmon and avocado, seaweed and brown rice. It was, um, eight pieces? The brown rice definitely keeps me full longer but I had baked white cheddar kettle chips and salsa with it. That’s just how I roll.

Get it? ROLL? See what I did there?

Regarding the extra padding convo- I actually didn’t miss my breast size going down at all. I find it is much easier to run and just all around more comfortable. I can wear really deep V’s and strappy camisoles and not have to worry I am showing too much clevage. I was a full B cup (almost a C) at my highest weight and I am now barely a 34A. I am much healthier now than I was then, so I realy could care less if I had to loose some boobage along the way. 😉

    Britt,
    Check the FAQ page 🙂

    angelcubbie ,
The only thing that will make you gain weight is consuming more calories than you burn. You could eat 1,800 calories worth of Snickers bars or broccoli – but of course you know that good nutrition is all about balance and your body would be miserable. PPP had great advice too 🙂

    Togetherwithasmile,
The dishes are both from specialty stores, but Crate + Barrel has identical white square places. The coral bowl is from a boutique shop, but if you hunt around there are SO many cute bowls out there! And small dishes are a great thing to collect because they are usually $3-10 and I usually just buy 2 at a time.

    Re. Padding,
I don’t miss my extra weight AT ALL! And I’m with those who LIKE having a smaller chest 🙂

    Carrie,
You could run – that doesn’t involve arms? Or Stationary bike? If you’re worried about it bleeding, maybe just enjoy a day off?

    Kiala,
You are hilarious (as always) with the ice cream/salad
