Hot ‘n Bothered

My my this breakfast was good – but it was too hot! I don’t understand why some days my oatmeal is piping and other days it’s the perfect temp. Actually, I bet it has to do with how long I cook it (duh…) because I stirred in cottage cheese today and cooked it longer than normal to let that heat up. I bet that’s totally it! Lesson: remove oats from stove before they are rapidly bubbling!

IMG_3143 (640x427)

Despite being hot, this bowl was HOT STUFF!

IMG_3142 (640x427)

  • The Mix

  • 1/3 cup Great Harvest Cinnamon Raisin oat mix
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1/3 cup milk (MUCH better today!)
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1/2 tbsp chia seeds
  • 1/3 cup Organic Valley Cottage Cheese, stirred in at end
  • Cinnamon
  • Vanilla
  • Pinch salt
  • Nuttzo (the real deal – haven’t had it in oats in ages and it was suppppper crunchy!)

andddddddd

Galaxy Granola Maple Pecan Quinoa granola!!! The NEWest in the flavor line. Make with oats, spelt, barley, maple, pecans, quinoa, oat bran, white grape juice concentrate, apples, crisp rice, coconut flakes, cinnamon – delish! I love how crunchy these are. Can you tell I’m into crunch!? Vanilla Almond is still my favorite flavor, but this one was close behind 🙂

Package:

Galaxy Granola (2)

Stats:

My coffee hasn’t been frothing lately I wonder if the weather is to blame. A reader posted a few weeks ago that the froth amount has to do with the barometric pressure (or something!) and now that it’s all humid in the south, the air has changed. I wonder if this is why some of you can never get any froth? High altitude, different climates?

Have a flippin’ Friday! I’ve got a busy one: work –> workout (uptown) –> graduation dinner

Oof, that Galaxy granola has such good stats – 5g of protein from only a 1/4 cup, that seems pretty good 🙂
    Have a great day!

I actually have to let my oats sit for a minute. I like to pour a little bit of almond milk on top and let it sit..then enjoy. It helps it cool off and set up just a bit. Your mix looks like a perfect way to start Friday! Have a great day, Kath!

I hate it when my oats are so hot they burn my mouth, too!! I used to actually put them in the fridge for a little bit after I made them…. to speed up the cooling down process… but then I realized that was probably horrible for my fridge… so now I just try to let them sit for five or ten minutes while I do something else…

    Anywhoo… yours look especially tasty today… 🙂

Frothing French press is a scientific mystery- I’ve been making it since November with no foam at all and just last week my coffee has been foaming like crazy!! What the?! Either way, sure tastes delicious 🙂

Oats look delish! I have been heating my milk in the microwave until warm then giving a quick whisk in my cup before adding in my french press coffee. I have no problem getting that yummy froth that one would get from a coffee shop and I’m in Charleston. We have a LOT of humidity!

I always get to the middle of my oatmeal on the bottom (the part that stays trapped by all the other oatmeal until I finally dig down in there) and it always sears my tounge. Even if the top is already congealed or cold or nasty. Kind of fun, it that painful way…

I have a silly question… the oats you made this morning, you cooked this morning, right? I keep hearing about “over night oats”. Do you have to cook those? Or just let them sit overnight? Can someone give me the recipe and fill me in! I’d love to try ’em 🙂

I have a weird question. Is it possible to eat too much yogurt? There are some days where I eat a kilogram of plain, nonfat yogurt (i dont know how much that is in the English system, but calorie-wise that’s 500 calories of yogurt in a day).

the rest of my day is filled with fruits, vegetables, eggs and nuts, and some grains, so it’s not like i’m replacing yogurt for meals. but i do consume a lot and am worried especially about yogurt’s natural sugar content in such a high dose.

500 calories of yogurt is pretty high. If you’re eating 2,000 calories/day, that’s 25% from yogurt alone. While it’s a very healthy food, I’d lower it just a bit. Not a big deal for a day or so, but probably not ideal for long term eating habits.

I usually stir my oatmeal for 30 seconds or so before I add my toppings so it becomes “just right.”

I would have never thought the barometric pressure could influence the frothiness of coffee – very interesting.

I read that the French press froth (or bloom) can also have to do with how freshly roasted the beans are. We switched to buying our beans straight from a local coffee store (they run specials on Fridays so it saves money), so they are always roasted within a day or two of purchase and the froth is crazy.
