Homemade Decadence

Last night I found THIS in the kitchen after I was permitted to enter the room:

Homemade chocolate ganache! And leftover cake cutouts!

DSC05140

I was naughty and probably ate 1/4-1/3 cup of the ganache – straight from the bowl – with dips of cake. But how often do you have a bowl of leftover cake parts just sitting in your kitchen!!! I can’t wait to eat the real thing tonight. He’s still got one more part to do before it’s all put together.

Breakfast this morning was another decadent creation –

DSC05145

  • 1/3 cup Windy Hills flax oats, 1/3 cup hemp milk, 1/2 cup H2O
  • 1 tbsp raisins (my newest oatmeal love – I forgot to mention these yesterday).
  • 1/2 large banana (not ripe enough 🙁 )
  • Salt, vanilla
  • 1/2 cup pumpkin (on the bottom – I didn’t mix it well)
  • Cinnamon
  • Granola plank
  • Pumpkin butter
  • 1 tbsp wheatberries
  • Spoonful PB (plus a second spoonful mid-eat!)

DSC05148

With tea –

I’m not feeling my best this morning despite 9 hours of sleep. I bet it was a combo of the wine + sugar 😥

But I did manage to clean the kitchen and all the floors in the house (mop + vacuum). I also checked the mailbox and found these treats from Megan of Megan’s Munchies after I had said I couldn’t find them in my store –

Thanks so much Megan!!!!!!!!! Can’t wait to try one.

Oktoberfest

Tonight we’re having an Oktoberfest Birthday Party with some of our friends! Beer + sausages + fall fun. Wish you all could be here to celebrate! My goal is to NOT overdo it celebrating tonight or I will RUIN my actual birthday tomorrow. I told the husband already: If you see me picking at the cake or reaching for a 4th beer, STOP me. I promise it’s for our own good. I need to stretch out the celebration to last until Monday morning and if I eat/drink too much tonight, tomorrow will be drab.

The sun is expected to pay me a birthday visit this afternoon. Better get to the gym before I miss him!

The Octoberfest party sounds great. Do you grill the sausages or steam them in beer? I am curious to know what the cake wil look like, it sounds delicious already. Steve’s BD is the 4th and the husband has inspired me to bake a cake this year for ‘the chef’ 🙂 Have a great birthday.

What a wonderful husband you have!

So I was reading this article: http://slideshows.health.com/slide_shows/10291/slides/10839
and I was wondering if you’ve ever been to the grocery store Bloom, it’s an offshoot of Food Lion with an emphasis on natural/organic/local/specialty food. I think there’s one in Charlotte but not in my part of the state. I’m just wondering how much different it is from a regular FL. Kath? Anyone?

To Rachel: We have a Bloom here in my area. It is a bit nicer than Food Lion….definitely way more organic stuff…in fact a whole section/freezer section of some pretty good stuff. However, their produce aren’t very good(still better than FL, though). Overall, I do like going there better than FL but I would go to Trader Joes before that….or even the Giant. Hope that helps.

I would not have stayed out of that ganache and cake. I wouldn’t have been able to get 9 hours of sleep though. Sugar always keeps me awake.

I’ve never had wheatberries (at least not that I can remember). What form do they come in when you buy them? Are they already cooked or do you cook them/do you need to cook them? What kind of texture do they have?
I really want to buy some because they look really good!!

    WendyF ,
We got precooked chicken sausages (mild italian) and are planning to grill them.

    SmA033 ,
Oh good!! Hope I like ’em.

    Mara ,
I didn’t eat it this morning – it was late last night!! I don’t think I could have fit both the ganache and that big bowl of oats 🙂

    Farah ,
Told ya so!!! So glad it was worth cleaning the pot 🙂 I’m sure Honest Foods will get more in stock soon – that must be how good they are!

    Rachel ,
I’ve been to Bloom and didn’t think it was anything special….

    Roxana ,
