Hi From The Pumpkin Oven

Back at the center of the baked good universe! I have had a wonderful 2 weeks’ vacation, but boy have I missed this place.

IMG_0580 (600x450)

Including my FRIENDS! Alex, Jenny, Ellen and I are hanging out today! We have such a good time.

Another friend came in to meet me for lunch – Sami! She’s been leaving me comments for ages – and just started as a first year at the University of Virginia (!)

IMG_0583 (450x600)

We chatted over tofu and tuna with breaks for me to hop up and handle a few things.

IMG_0579 (600x450)IMG_0578 (600x450)

We are making something new for October – Pumpkin Oh’s!! It’s a pumpkin cake dough swirled up with a spiced cream cheese. Matt made an experimental loaf and saved me a slice in the cooler. It was so good!! Although I think the cream cheese could have used a little pumpkin too ; )

IMG_0584 (600x450)

There is bread to bag and paperwork to do! Hope the pumpkin beer making is going well at home!

Mmmm, pumpkin. I am craving it crazily-it’s all your fault Kath! 😉 Kidding, I’m just excited for fall and my birthday in a week and a day!

I have never had a rolled cake before but that looks positively scrumptious. And your curried tuna sandwich looks yummy. I wish I could have one delivered from Charlottesville-along with a bowl of soup, it would be the perfect food to help me get over the cold or whatever I have right now. I wouldn’t ask anyone to do the drive for me though, I’ll just have I get it next time I’m in town!

In Kansas, we call the Pumpkin-Oh a pumpkin roll or pumpkin log, and many people add marshmallow creme to the filling, which makes it extra fluffy.

Yum! I make pumpkin rolls every year. I actually sort of mass produce them (using recipe on the Libby’s label) and then wrap them up and freeze them. That way I have fall/holiday desserts ready at all times for parties or even hostess gifts. I happen to work for a company that makes a great silicone jelly roll pan so they are super easy and it helps me with sales too. Thanks for the reminder that it’s not too early to start making them!
