Heavy Handed

Hello oats-in-a-mug!!!

IMG_1012 (640x427)

Complete with hidden treasures…

The Mix

  • 1/4 cup oats
  • 1/8 cup 10 Grain Hot Cereal
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds
  • Cinnamon, salt, vanilla
  • Maranatha Dark Choco AB
  • Galaxy Granola Cranberry Orange

IMG_1015 (640x427)

I was a little heavy handed on the chia seeds this morning – for the better!! And the Maranatha Chocolate Almond Butter was an absolute pleasure to stumble upon

 this !

IMG_1018 (640x427)

Also was heavy handed on the Galaxy Granola – and enjoyed every last crunch!

 IMG_1011 (640x427)

Today’s tea was Coconut Kava Cream by Tiger Wing. Again, I was hoping for an amazing experience, but I found it to be very yerba mate tasting and not too heavy on the coconut or the cream :(  Guess they weren’t too heavy handed on those. The best coconut tea I have ever consumed is the Gypsy Coconut Chai.

IMG_1008 (640x427)

IMG_1009 (640x427)

This oatmeal "bowl" was ENDLESS. It just kept coming!!

IMG_1020 (640x427)

IMG_1007 (640x427)

I was supposed to do some yoga this morning but was totally lazy in my bed…zzzzz…

I love how you layered the oats – – they look soo good! I was supposed to go lift weights today, but decided that my body needed a rest. I tend to do exercise 3 days on, 1 day off so I don’t get burnt out (and to give all of my muscles one day of active recovery – I do a lot of walking!).

I’m loving the oats in a mug look, that’s pretty awesome!

How long do your oats stay warm? Whenever I go to photo my breakfast and get it all done with they’re usually cold again and require heating at least twice during the time it takes me to eat it! Just curious if you reheat or if you don’t mind it slightly chilled 😮

My husband and I love oatmeal, but to you we’d probably be oatmeal heathens since we usually buy Quaker instant in any of their flavors. I’ve decided to take a stand this weekend and make REAL oatmeal in one of your flavors. I’ll probably write a blog about it at some point this weekend and let you know how it goes. Thanks for the inspiration.

Your oats look delicious, and they are so popular on the food blogs I read. But how many calories do you think are in that breakfast? I love oats, and know the peanut butter, oats, chia, milk, banana, are all good calories, but what does it really add up to? And is it not too much?

Hi Kath! I have a bit of a question and I feel silly because I’m sure you’ve covered it and I’m a regular reader, but I’m just wondering when you add the chia seeds during the cooking of your oatmeal? I’ve looked at your Tribute page and while you list chia seedsin the ingredients of the Whipped Banana basic recipe, I can’t see in the method when the chia seeds go in. Do you add them after cooking and let it sit a bit?

Woudl really appreciate the answer – I just bought a bag of chia today, you see, and am super excited to make chia oatmeal tonight! (house sitting = breakfast for dinner :P)
