Happy Apple

IMG_0126Blog

Good afternoon friends. My this day is going by quickly!! I worked on a recipe all morning – turned it in – yay! And got another recipe assignment that practically took its spot on my to-do list. A good problem to have though!

I went for a run at 11:30 – ran straight to the hospital to pay Karen a visit! She’s doing well and seems a bit more ready to come home. We’re guessing tomorrow – if her fever is gone (she has a small one now but her pain is better). I hung out with her for a while – and her nurse, Amy, is a blog reader!! [Hi Amy!] That was very exciting.

IMG_0133Blog

Back at home I headed up our leftover green curry dish. And topped that with some GOAT FETA!!!!!!!! This is the most expensive yet most delicious cheese I’ve ever bought. Too bad I’m addicted! It was the perfect topping to the dish.

IMG_0132Blog

Had a happy honeycrisp on the side. Another most-expensive-most-delicious option.

IMG_0129Blog

Here’s something cheap and good – M&Ms! Finally got a little of that H-ween candy. I put the bowl outside with the guys who are working on our new screened-in porch secret project and I bet it’s half gone by now!

IMG_0138Blog

Walking to the bakery to do some things there. Have a happy afternoon!

Feta is probably one of my favorite cheeses. I’m part Egyptian, so my dad (100% Egyptian) is very into getting REAL feta from a Coptic church in my hometown. Man that stuff is good.

Goat products are to me what onions are to you. I can pick the taste out of anything. I grew up on a goat farm, milking goats daily. They are lovely little pets but we never bought cow’s milk anything and I just can’t stomach anything from a goat now – it all tastes so “goaty”. For you goat cheese lovers out there though, I’m sure there are some great recipes – we used to make goat milk everything (yogurt, butter, cream cheese, ice cream, etc.) – it would be an interesting adventure to make a batch of feta!

Raised in Cyprus, I used to hate sheep milk feta but now can’t live without it. It’s supposed to be the only “real” kind of feta. Goat cheeses grow on you little by little and then BAM! you’re addicted. Not a bad addiction though 😉

I was able to get Honeycrisps this week for $1.67/lb and stocked up. I used some along with some orchard apples and a few pears to make a chunky applesauce. You have to be so excited about your secret project/screened in porch! Keeping the workers fed and happy is important. Cheese and apple addictions, it could be a lot worse. I’m willing to pay a little extra for good cheese and good produce. Glad Karen is feeling better.
