Good Ole Oatmeal

Up and at ’em at 5 this morning. I got a number of good tasks completed last night that had piled up over the weekend, so I’m feeling in control of my crazy life again. Hope this afternoon I can enjoy another spring day and watch that Gossip Girl that I saw on my DVR! (I want to watch "The Debarted" once more before I do though!)

I headed to the gym for some light cardio and a weight session. 35 minutes on the elliptical plus a solid 15 of weights. I tried to lift heavy weights and work each major muscle group. Think it worked because I was shaking in the shoulders as I photographed breakfast!

Good ole oatmeal. Nothing fills me up quite the same!

The Mix

  • 1/4 cup oats
  • 1/4 cup Bob’s Red Mill Apple Cinnamon Hot Cereal
  • 1/4 cup soy milk
  • 3/4 cup water
  • Half banana
  • Half tbsp chia seeds
  • Pinch salt
  • 1/3 cup cottage cheese, stirred in at end
  • Vanilla + cinnamon
  • Toppings: TJ’s Pumpkin Butter, coconut, walnut meal from some I ground for a recipe and Naturally Nutty Vanilla Peanut Butter!

Christmas Blend. Trying to use it up so I can open my SPRING BLEND!

I’m going on a limb and saying this is a kneeling woman with a baby dot growing inside of her 🙂

beautiful breakfast! it looks like it snowed in your oatmeal.

as a nutritionist i was wondering about your take on recent findings that alcohol consumption might not be directly related to weight gain (http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/03/08/women-drinkers-gain-less-weight/?em). i know you drink very little alcohol, lots of “mocktails” etc…..obviously drinks have calories but do you think more may be at play than a “calories in, calories out” train of thought?

i don’t know….it interests me a lot. i suppose everyone’s body and metabolism is different though.

Everything I learned about alcohol metabolism in my classes indicated that alcohol = fat gain. From the processes in the liver (alcohol metabolism shuts off lipolysis) to the hangover effects – there’s just nothing good about alcohol! That said, I don’t think 4 oz of wine at dinner is going to make you gain weight or shut off all fat burn. I think it’s more 2-3 glasses a few times a week. But still, I think of a glass of wine as a treat – not a daily “medicine.” The risks outweigh the benefits, in my opinion.

PS. I think with that article – I bet they are eating less. Alcohol does take away my appetite (with 1 drink, not 3 🙂 )

OHH that oatmeal looks good! I hve to say, I have OATS IN A JAR all lined up for tomorrow (I just finished my PB jar :D) and I feel here is one of the few places I can state that where fellow PB lovers will share my excitement 😛
In regards to the above post, I’m a big believer in the ‘cals in, cals out’ thing – I don’t think it matters what you eat or drink, if it’s too much, you gain!

I am obsessed with Gossip Girl and usually go to the gym very early Tuesday mornings so that I can come home and enjoy Gossip Girl with my breakfast. Thankfully Gossip Girl was on last night so I had a nice morning treat today. What would we do without DVR?

A lot of the book blogs I read use embedded Google spreadsheets to run contests. That way, people just enter their info, and all you have to do is choose from a spreadsheet. There’s an example of it at the bottom of the post here (http://www.thestorysiren.com/2010/03/author-interview-amelia-atwater-rhodes.html). Maybe this only works on certain platforms? I don’t know, but it could make your life easier!
