Goin’ Bananas

DSC03912

Things are a little crazy around here! Despite the fact that I’m working out this afternoon with Girls on the Run (first day!!! I’m going to run myself afterwards before class), I still managed to make my morning rushed by sleeping in and then playing on my computer. Gah!

The husband picked up a SUPER bag of bananas during his Costco trip, so we’re got a lot to use up. This resulted in a batch of “double banana” oatmeal, which means more marshmallows and more sweetness! (We usually just split one to get the banana effect without going through 2 a day). When we do double banana, 1 gets sliced very thin for emulsion and the other gets sliced thick for chunks of banana marshmallows.

We also added raisins, wheatberries, vanilla, granola plank and a spoonful of AB –

With green tea –

I didn’t even realize bananas came in bunches that large! Leave it to Costco to find the highest-yielding banana trees. Hope GOTR is fun so it feels like a break from a busy day, not another stress. Good luck!

I have a question for anyone: I’m trying to lose about six or seven pounds, and I work out quite a bit (cardio about 45 minutes, 5 days a week; strength training about 30 minutes, 2 days a week), and I eat about 1600 calories a day. I’m not too hungry when I go to bed, but every single night I wake up ravenous. I’m so hungry I have to eat something (cottage cheese, yogurt) to be able to go back to sleep. I know this late-night eating is keeping me from losing the weight I want, but I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this. I know the obvious answer is “Duh, eat more during the day,” but I’m unable to lose weight by doing that. Any help would be so great!

    Betsy in Pittsburgh,
    Cute

    Anna ,
If oatmeal is slop, then I guess I’m a pig!

    ray ,
It’s probably made with water (not milk) and if you don’t load on the toppings, it’s just 150 kcal worth of carbs, which is probably not going to keel you full for too long. I’d suggest adding a lattte, milk or yogurt and/or putting on some nuts and I think they offer almond butter too!?

    Chelsea ,
Oh cool, please pass it on!

    sally ,
In general it sounds like you’re just not getting enough food. Could you plan a small snack before bedtime to help prevent the night hunger? I also sometimes am ravenous but I realize it’s my cue for thirst. Are you drinking enough? If it continues to happen, you might want to see your doctor to rule out metabolic problems.

Sally- I would try and adjust your entire eating time frame. I eat at what people would consider to be odd times per day, but it works for me. 7AM snack- 100 calories, 10 AM breakfast- 300 calories, 1:30 lunch- 300 calories, 4PM snack- 300 calories, 7:30PM dinner- 600 calories, 8:30 PM- dessert/snack- 150 calories. This helped me loose when I was trying because my metabolism was constantly kicked into gear. I try to push my calories more toward the end of the day because that is when I am hungriest. Hope this helps!

If you have bananas you need to use up, check out Veggiegirl’s site. She made some ridiculously amazing banana bread the other day (at least it looked that way in the picture). The bananas were kind of carmelized on top- Yummy!
