Friendship Alarm Clock

I did not sleep well last night 🙁 I blame the cup of Starbucks coffee at work yesterday! Starbucks has 2-3x the caffeine content of regular coffee and I can always tell (in a bad way). I tossed and turned with a lot on my mind.

But somehow (somehow!) getting up at 4:45 wasn’t that hard. I had places to go and a friend to meet!

Emily and I loved our Monday AM run so much we decided to do another. I’m having a blast with the early workouts! I’m sure I’ll get tired of them again, but they sure have made a fun sudden comeback. And I only have 2 more weeks to get through and then I can workout any time I please

 this !

I had a date, which was dunked in a little PB, before I left the house at 5:30.

5 miles later!!! My legs were zonked and we were ready for oats!

IMG_5168 (640x427)

IMG_5169 (640x427)

For TWO Servings

  • 1/4 cup Bob’s Red Mill 10 Grain Hot Cereal
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds
  • 1 banana (I’ve been getting the EarthFare bananas and something is not right with them. Despite being mushy, spotted and ripe, they taste like they are not ripe! And I promise they aren’t plantains 🙂 Must find better bananas next week!)
  • Vanilla, salt

Toppings

  • Nature’s Path granola
  • Lingonberry preserves
  • BISCOFF SPREAD!!!
  • Coconut

IMG_5165 (640x427)

The Biscoff melted in. Pure bliss.

IMG_5175 (640x427)

Caftea was served…

IMG_5177 (640x427)

Yum

I had the same problem with my bananas recently!! I think I bought them at Wal-Mart. Some were barely freckled but super mushy & some were really freckled but not very sweet. :-/ Your breakfast looks super good though! I hope you have a good day at work! I have to work from 9 to 8. Yikes!

It must have been difficult to share that Biscoff spread! 😉 And to be totally honest, I thought the same thing about my bananas too, seriously. Mine seem kind of slimy in texture instead of creamy.

Peanut butter & dates are such a great combo too! When I eat them as a snack, I like to add an almond inside for crunch, and a sprinkle of salt.

I loved AM workouts but recently have been having to push it back to the afternoon for class. The afternoon ones are great, but it’s sooo nice to get it out of the way first thing. Waking up early isn’t fun, though..so I guess it’s all give n take 😛

Oh and about the Biscoff spread!! I discovered this last summer in France! It isn’t called Biscoff here just Lotus Karamellgebäck! I was hooked instantly!! And scarfed that jar down in about two weeks!!! Thank god I haven’t seen this here (yet?!)! 😀

I wish I was more of a morning person because it’s such a good feeling having your workout done for the day. RIght now I’m training for a triathlon, though, and the pool is a bit far off so to avoid traffic I go late at night. Last night I didn’t leave the gym until 10:30.

I hate when fruit’s not sweet! So yucky and disappointing! I remember last summer when I was struggling with ED, though, I would always taste a berry before I ate any, and then I wouldn’t eat it if it was too sweet because I thought it would have more sugar than one that was sour or tart. How stupid was that?!

I’ve had that problem with bananas too, and it’s usually when I store them too close to other fruit. I’m sure you know that the gas from fruits can ripen bananas, but sometimes I’ve found it has more of an effect than others! Hope you have a great day!

The secret is to switch to Starbucks decaf. It still has enough of a jolt to pick you up when you need it, but it’s not super-powerful like their over-caffeinated regular coffees.

I worked at Starbucks a few years ago, and if i recall the more processed the beans are, the less actual caffeine is in the coffee, but the stronger the taste. So it tastes stronger, but there is actually more caffeine is something like folgers.

Again..this was almost 5 years ago so….maybe I have my facts backwards!

so I just googled it, and I guess there was a study published in the wall street journal that Starbucks and other high end chains routinely have up to 56% more caffeine than places like the gast station and 7-11 (and I’m guessing Folgers?)

Allison, you’re right (I mean, I’ve heard that too!)! The more processed the beans the less caffeine in the coffee…it sounds backwards and takes a few read-throughs to make sense of that fact, I think.

I loooooove Starbucks coffee, everything else tastes too watery and bland to me! That’s probably b/c of the caffeine content but I think s-bucks actually sets a high standard for coffee, and local chains often taste bland in comparison. That being said, I definitely could see it keeping someone up at night!

Just in case you haven’t tried it…add a little hot water to your Starbucks coffee. Since their coffee is so strong, a litlte water hardly makes a difference. Plus you can still enjoy a full mug of coffee without as much caffeine.

    P.S.
I am not sure that their coffee has more caffeine so much as they use the two tablespoons of coffee per six ounces of water.
