For The Love Of The Blog

I am sitting 5 feet from the EarthFare doors, which blow FREEZING air in every time they open. Wrapped in my coat and scarf and still cold. Why am I sitting here? Because the natural light was better for food photography!! I am thinking about relocating after I blog – or getting a cup of tea!

I paired soup + salad today to get in some warmth –

A cup of Thai Chicken Red Curry

IMG_0751 (800x600) (2)

And my usual salad, minus the usual amount of toppings to accommodate the soup addition. I still needed to fill up so I can make it to 8:15 for dinner! I’ve got a LaraBar for snack.

IMG_0748 (800x600) (2)

  • Greens: Romaine + spinach dressed in a little Goddess dressing (75% of the salad is greens on the bottom)
  • Veg: Broccoli, carrots, bell pepper, squash, 1 cuc, mushrooms, a few gingered carrots
  • Protein: A small amount of garbanzo beans, kidney beans, soy nuts, a falafel ball and The Best Salmon (just a small amount)
  • Grains: 2 toast rounds for my soup, 2 tbsp brown rice
  • Fruit: 2 pineapple, 1 cantaloupe piece
  • Calcium: A few tbsp feta + blue cheese, 2 pepperjack cheese cubes

IMG_0749 (800x600) (2)

Perfect combo.

I remember doing that bitterness experiment in a high school science class – no one in my class couldn’t taste it though 😛

Just wondering, do you not have a pre-workout snack ever anymore? I know it used to be one of the things that motivated you to get out of bed (I was re-reading your faqs), but if you’re not showing, are you not eating? I’m curious whether you have noticed a difference in energy during the workout, exertion, etc. Thanks!

    Kristen ,
No, I am not having a snack any more. I think I was just having it out of habit. Now I drink water, which takes away any first-thing hunger, which is probably thirst! I haven’t noticed any difference in energy, and it’s saved me time in the morning.

Did you know that some people find saccharin sweet and others bitter? It’s the magic of food (and chemicals!)

I studied a similar degree as yours in my country and everyday I learnt something that change the way I look at food.

By the way, I love your blog! Wish I could eat so healthy!

the things we do for natural light!

i remember having a bio teacher in high school who passed out these bitter-flavor papers to the class to taste, and half the class could taste them and was shocked that the rest of us couldn’t. i’ve wondered ever since what i’m missing!

I hate that about our Earth Fare! I was wondering about that when they built it, where the eat-in area would go. The Charlotte one has a much nicer eat-in area. 🙁

Still, your meal looks yummy! You just need a hot toddy to go with it! 🙂

    Kath-
I have been reading your blog for more than a year now, but never comment.

But I just have to say this:
I cannot believe that you are selling Dog bowls as “Oatmeal” bowls on your KERF store. Literally, the stock photos have dog food in them. You are tarnishing your brand by selling such low-quality, ridiculous items for sky high prices.

I don’t think you should be selling things like this, unless it is quality and worth every cent of our money.

    Mon ,
I haven’t heard the latest news, but last I heard the PB outbreaks were linked to commercial PB – nothing you buy in stores.

And I liked Micro a lot – when it wasn’t killing me with studying!

All I have to say is: MEH.

I thought the bowl was intended for pets as well, going by the description, although I did just notice that it’s tagged as an oatmeal bowl. I suppose it doesn’t matter that much since it’s presumably a brand new bowl and what you use it for is your own choice, but is it meant to be a dog bowl or a people bowl?
