Nuts + Squirrels

Morning!

I woke up refreshed this morning after a good night’s sleep. I hit the gym for a great workout!! I consider it a good workout day when I get sweaty and red-faced and have enough time to do some weight lifting. All goals were met today. I warmed up on the squirrelliptical while I waited for a Stepmill to open and spend 30 minutes on that, and then moved on to do a set with upper body free weights and a few lunges.

Wednesday is my new cold cereal day since I’m more pressed for time and am using up our abundance.

Today’s Mix:

  • 1 cup Kashi H2H
  • 1/3 cup Trader Joe’s fiber worms
  • 1/2 large banana
  • About 6 sliced strawberries
  • About 1/3 cup blueberries
  • 1/2 cup vanilla soy milk
  • Tbsp wheatgerm
  • A few pieces of walnut, almond + peanut

IMG_0742 (1024x768)

My mom bought me this cute K mug at Anthropologie while we were in Towson 🙂

The husband is brewing beer after work since I am gone all day. I left a little bear reading an antique cookbook for him to stumble upon in his bottle boxes. Hee hee!

I thought they were stunning! The whole day was kind of like a wedding – ceremony, reception, receiving line, ball – and white dress!

Obama's dress

Peace, I’m out.

OMG, I am so glad you posted a link to the Cybex trainer! I have been using one at my gym and had no idea what it was called. Arc trainer! But I like squirrelliptical better.

The Obamas looked beautiful and I love your new mug! So cute.

Hi Kath- I’ve been reading for awhile and really enjoy your blog, but I haven’t gotten around to commenting yet. When I saw your mug in this morning’s post, I had to laugh because I’m drinking my morning tea out of the exact same mug right now!

I LOVE THAT MUG! I saw it at anthropologie, and wanted to buy it for myself (but it was right around Christmas time – I couldn’t buy it for myself before I’d finished buying all my presents for others) – LOVE IT!

Hey Kath! I was just checking out some of the updates to the blog, they look great! We seem to have a lot in common–I lost 30+ lbs during my final years at school, my husband and I also were married on June 2, 2007, I am left handed, and after graduating with my first degree in 2007 I have decided to go back to school to become a RD. I’m really excited about it! Anyway, love the blog–thanks, you are a true inspiration! 🙂

Hey Kath – I am thrilled that I happened upon your blog (thanks to Sparkpeople.com) and have been reading through all of your past postings with great interest (shhh, don’t tell my boss! ;-0). I too share your love of oats and all things doughy! I am striving to wean myself off of processed foods and artificial sweeteners too. I am wondering – from all of your classes and research – what is your take on “natural” calorie free sweeteners like stevia? Do you use them? Thanks!

    Kristi, Sarah + Philippa ,
    Thank you for your comments!

    brandi ,
Yes, I heated the milk and fruit this morning.

    Katie ,
I used to struggle with artificial sweeteners:
    Option 1: Consume artificial sweetners
Option 2: Consumer calories and affect blood sugar with sugar

    What’s a girl to do!?

At that point the answer was obvious: Don’t sweeten things.

I have worked to try to like things as they are – coffee, tea and pumpkin. Sometimes I will use sugar, honey, maple or occasionally Equal on things, but I try to keep my everyday diet as unsweet as possible. That said, Stevia is probably “better” than some of the others out there since it’s 100% natural.

    Heather ,
Glad it was helpful! They are great for selling back books too. They have a guaranteed buy back and the re-shipping is free. Try BookByte.com too!

Mmmm, your camera makes cereal look good. Makes me want a new one even more. Especially as the one you are using is an updated version of the one I have now.

Have you heard about the Peanut Butter Products recall? I was glancing at the list earlier and was surprised to find some CLIF bars and LARABARs on there. Yikes!

Your bowl of cereal is heavenly! I am going to go home right now and make myself a “big mix” bowl. (That is what I call it when I combine every cereal and add fruit, nuts, raisins, peanutbutter and a squirt of honey!)
