Dangerous Discovery

And I don’t mean anything related to my powerless computer!

I discovered you can watch full episodes of HGTV shows at HGTV.com! I just finished an episode of My First Place over lunch

 this !
They do make you watch it in pieces with a single commercial inbetween and most annoyingly I had some connection issues when I had to twiddle my thumbs quite often while I waited for it to reload, but for being trapped on campus often with only a computer, this is a golden find!!

But it wasn’t all play – I got a good hour and a half of Micro work done before lunch and worked through 12:30.

Speaking of lunch, it was awesome today!!!

I made a crunchy Salmon Salad with a bunch of veggies had on hand.

  • 1/2 a can of salmon (I use Costco brand)
  • 1/2 cup chopped leftover green beans
  • 1 carrot, chopped
  • 1 stalk celery, chopped
  • 1/3 small green pepper, chopped
  • 2 tbsp pickled jalapenos (SPICY!!!)
  • 1 tbsp capers
  • 1 tsp mustard
  • 2 tbsp greek yogurt
  • 1 tsp red curry powder
  • 1/2 tsp dried dill
  • Served over a bed of spinach

Off to Foodservice, then home! Since my workload isn’t too bad tonight, maybe I can fit in a nice neighborhood stroll before dinner.

Ack! Episodes online are the worst thing ever when it comes to getting ANYTHING done! Doesn’t mean I don’t love them, though!

The honeycrisps have been amazing lately. I’ve been eating one every day with (per your example) tons of cinnamon sprinkled over. Bliss!

Honey crisps are my fave apple right now! I’ll have to check out HGTV.com, although I think it would be of more benefit if I actually hade my own H (Home) and G (Garden). I wonder if there’s an ABTV for people with Apartments and Balconies?

Oh no! I’m going to waste so much time now 🙂

If you don’t know about hulu.com, you should check it out – it has tons of tv shows. It also has the annoying short commercials, but it’s really useful. Definitely time-wasting though, hehe.

The jobs are going great! Earth Fare has really great future career potential, and Great Harvest is a fun place to work. Great Harvest has more of a way-down-the-road-great-future-career-potential. Everything has been hard work but very rewarding – I’m working 7 days this week!

Hi Kath! I’m a high school senior from Fla. who’s been reading your blog for a couple of months but never commented (I’ve been shy—but I’ll be sure to comment a lot from now on!). I just wanted to tell you how much I love your blog, and how you’ve really inspired me to start running and stick with it! I’m still not as fast as you are (congrats on your recent race!!!) but I’m getting there!
I’ve even gone from eating oatmeal maybe twice a YEAR to almost every single day because of all the yummy recipes I’ve gotten from your blog (I cook every bowl with bananas, too =P)
Thank you so much for inspiring me to keep living healthily!

Your lunch looked delicious! And thanks for the heads up about HGTV shows…I’m definitely addicted to that channel, too 🙂

    Ange C.,
Omg, honeycrips!! They are a type of apple that are only in season each fall. They are super sweet and hard and crunchy, like a Red Delicious is crunchy. They are yellow/red/greenish and a bit more expensive than other apples, but sssooo worth it!!!!

OMG Hulu.com is AWESOME!!!! Much more streamlined and clean than HGTV. Thanks so much (or I should say no thanks for my studying habits 🙂 )

    Laura ,
As a loyal Googler I’d love to create one. I’ll put it on my ToDoist and see what I can do this weekend. If anyone has tips let me know!

    madison (follow my weigh),
I did NOT realize The Office was online!! i haven’t seen any of the first 2 seasons…….more time just went to entertainment!! GRR!!! Thanks 🙂

    Lauren ,
OMG OMG!!! You guys are on fire today!! This website looks awesome. It’s not cheap, but it’s not expensive either. I think I might try to make one. Perhaps a muesli blend with stuff in it that can turn to instant dried fruit oats!? Thanks to you too!

    Gina ,

    Kath,

What do you do if you just hate beans? Will not, won’t and can’t eat em’ since I was little. I have tried over and over and just gag!

I am extremely over weight and need to lose about 75 pounds. I found out about your blog from my daughter. Nothing would make me happier and the rest of my family if I would lose this weight.

Can you direct me in any fashion on portions, calories, etc.? Would love the same success you found. I have truly tried them all, diets, pills, shakes, low carb…you name it I have done it. But truly, I am ready….please guide! Just a picky eater….

    DM ,
If you don’t like beans (and you’ve tried all different kinds – because they are all different: navy vs. black vs. kidney vs. lentils) then just don’t eat them! There are plenty of other healthy foods you can choose. As for getting healthy, my only advice would be to keep reading KERF for my example on how I got/maintain healthy eating fresh whole foods as much as possible. Many of the blogs on my sidebar are also good examples of people striving for healthy cooking and eating lifestyles too. I’d also highly recommend reading the books SuperFoods HealthStyle, Eating Well For Optimum Health, and Fit From With. All 3 had a great impact on the way I viewed health, weight loss and food. Would seeing an R.D. give you a motivational jump start? Just an idea 🙂 Lastly, I found the CalorieKing community very supportive. Whether you’d like to count calories or not is optional – but the blogs and friendships there helped get me through tough times during my weight loss and helped boost motivation.

    Good luck!

    Kath

    Diane ,
Anywhere from 1 minute to about 20, depending on how long it’s been since I posted last and what all happened that day and if we created a recipe from scratch or made something simple. Only longer vacation posts take more then 20 minutes or so.

I’m loving the honeycrisp apples, too! I find most apples make me nauseous if I don’t add a protein to them (usually in the form of PB) buy honeycrisps are just perfect on their own. Yay, fall!
