Creamy Oats

I got my missing hour back, but somehow I am still in a rush! Must be all the cooking…..

IMG_4461

New oat holder – and a new play on "creamy" oats 😉

IMG_4463

I see Ashley put oats in this cute clear measuring cup and as I was sorting my cabinets yesterday I found our Pottery Barn sugar bowl and creamer we got as wedding gifts. I love how sturdy these guys are. Thought it would make a cute bowl!

[If I had to make a top 10 list of my very favorite blogs (which I would never do out of fairness so please don’t ask!), Ashley‘s would be near the top! Her photos are gorgeous and her food just looks SO fresh and good! All that natural light she has out on Colorado now 🙂 ]

Where’s my natural light 5:45 AM?! HUH!?

The Mix:

  • 1/3 cup oats, milk, water, pinch salt
  • half GI-normous banana
  • ~1/3 cup Organic Valley cottage cheese, stirred in at end
  • Vanilla + cinnamon, stirred in at end
  • Mix My Granola Cinnamon Blend (see below!)
  • Costo PB, buried in the creamy warmth

IMG_4457

Mix My Granola must love me because they sent another tube of their latest new base: Cinnamon Granola

IMG_4446

I requested almonds, chia seeds and banana chips and I have to say this is the BEST MMG combo to date! The cinnamon gives it so much flava + aroma and the oats are super crunchy. [I do miss the M&Ms and candy corn from my previous mix though 😉 ]

IMG_4447

On the coffee front, I had a surprise that came home with Matt last night!

IMG_4441

Remember when Andrea gave me a bag of Shenandoah Joe coffee when I visited Charlottesville this summer? And I ran out and made a note to myself here. Matt picked up some more! It’s a slightly different Panama flavor, but my gosh it smells sooo good just like the olden days!

[My surprise to him was a tin of sardines! He loves them and we’ve been out for weeks!]

IMG_4449

But notice something different??! No bloom!! (There was one but it was very small). As I suspected, it must be the Fresh Market coffee that has the amazing bloom, and therefore froth. Buy it online if you like! I recommend the flavored kinds!

But back to the Shenandoah Joe’s – YUM!!! It’s so rich and Matt says it smells like bread. Wouldn’t he be the one to know!?

IMG_4454

IMG_4451

Breakfast was so filling today!

OMG – I nearly flipped outta my chair last night when I discovered these Google Chrome Extensions!!! Read about it here. So many cool tools. There are just SO many cool things you can add that will save you hours of time. The ones I installed right away: Weather Channel (a drop down snapshot of weather!), Facebook, Google Docs (LIFESAVER!), Google Reader, but the best is the Google Apps Shortcuts, which will save you lots of clicks!

NERD KERF video in the works this weekend 🙂

Off to a middle school to do an Accuclaim audit!

    Love the new oat “bowl”!

Wonder why your coffee didn’t bloom? I am trying to finish up some of the coffee stash in my cabinet and found that most of them have given off the froth. And most of them aren’t anything special -just some supermarket blends!

I love Fresh Market’s coffee, too! My favorite is their Kona. Mmmm. Have you ever bought the Almond Amaretto? Sounds amazing, right? Well it was a little TOO flavory for me (and the husband.) Christmas blend and Kona are amaze though.

Love that bowl, too cute!!! MMG sounds so so good. I’ve been wanting some for a while but not sure if the cost is worth it. Is it really?

Fresh Market coffee is the best. In my opinion, there is no other kind available in mass market stores that really compares to it.

You use a blade or a burr grinder?

Honestly a burr grinder is going to give much better results, because the bits of coffee will all be the same size and they’ll extract all at the same time. I can’t afford one, so I get my coffee ground once a week. Even near the end of the week, my coffee blooms and there is some froth. Another thing that I find makes a difference is whether I have the first cup or not- there’s always more froth in the second cup :p
