Core Of The Pear

Lame title, but I needed to make core yoga + pear oatmeal come together!

I let myself sleep in today and didn’t set an alarm because I hadn’t slept well the past few nights. I put the eye mask on from the start and slept wonderfully – 9 hours! Of course now I’m getting a very late start on my day 😳

I downloaded the 60 minute Core Yoga last night from YogaDownload to do this morning. It was really hard – but more for my arms than my core! My shoulders were quaking and shaking in the planks. But right at the 30 minute mark the session came to a halt! Apparently I didn’t download the whole thing. I came to my computer and started the re-download and when I saw it would take 5 whole minutes decided to call it a 30 minute day and move on to breakfast. I did confirm that the new download worked, so I think it was an error on my part. I may be a little uneven today from only doing one side of one flow, but arms are equally tired!

I glanced at our fruit bowl to notice we’re low on bananas and noticed a little bosc pear just smiling up at me, so I made Pear Raisin Cottage Cheese Oats. It was great!

The Mix:

Into the pot:

  • 1/3 cup oats
  • 1/3 cup vanilla almond milk (didn’t notice it at all)
  • 1/3 cup water
  • pinch salt
  • 1 tiny bosc pear
  • 2 tbsp raisins

Stirred in at end:

  • 2 heaping tbsp cottage cheese
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 tbsp wheatberries
  • 1 tsp cinnamon

Toppings

  • 1/6 Koka Moka Probar
  • 1 tbsp flax
  • 1 heaping tbsp Naturally More PB
  • Drizzle maple syrup
  • Sprinkle coconut butter

Good luck today. I sometimes shelve my workout when I’m writing stories b/c I’m in “the writing zone.” I get annoyed I have to shelve the workout, but after the writing is done, I’m glad I plugged through! You can always work out the next day!

oh gosh. i can’t imagine doing 60 whole minutes of core yoga! that is intense. the 20 minute session has been enough for me to deal with. good for you! i have to say that it’s the yoga i enjoy doing the least, but i do it (maybe once a week only though) because i know it’s good for me.

    Kath,
i always shake too when doing planks and sometimes downward dog at the end…is this a good or a bad thing?? I’ve been wanting to go to a class but my shaking is holding me back.

In my opinion, quakin’ means you are working HARD so I think it’s a good thing.

Kath, thanks so much for pointing out they have cooked wheatberries in trader joe’s! I had been unsuccessfully looking for them since I saw them on the blog and thanks to your tip, finally found them! They’re a really nice addition to oats, love the texture. I was wondering if you use them like other grains with savory dishes as well? I was thinking of putting them in some madras lentil dish instead of rice.

Yoga works my arms and my shoulders for sure. I think as I get better at it, I’ll be able to focus on my core, but at this point I just try to get from one pose to the other without falling over!

    Biz319 ,
No, I haven’t checked them out yet. Things are too busy around here! Keep reminding me 🙂 Are they free?

    Sammie ,
    It’s from MyLiveSignature.com

    seelee live,
Comparable to pear cobbler or apple pie! It held its shape pretty well and def. sweetened the pot.

    Mandy A,
I think the yoga has really given me an appreciation for my body. It really is the whole focus thing – even when I’m out running I’m trying NOT to think about being out of breath or my legs burning, but with yoga, I think about every inch of my body and what it’s doing. On top of that, I’ve seen my ticeps emerge, shoulders tone, I have ABS for the first time ever, my quads are more toned, so I’m loving the whole body effect.
