Convenient Clouds

For once we’re thankful for a little break in the clouds.

After puzzle work this morning, Matt and I set out on an hour walk on the beach for some exercise. It was nice not to return brown and sweating.

IMG_0168 (640x480)

Back inside at 1PM and we flooded the kitchen with lunch materials.

We are out of Great Harvest bread 🙁

But my dad came home with some Arnold Rye – in honor of the Healthy Living Summit he said! [Arnold is our primary sponsor 🙂 ]

IMG_6763 (640x427)

I was in the mood for something cold… a green chilled soup!!

IMG_6776 (640x427)

IMG_6770 (640x427)

I Vita-Mixed away the following:

IMG_6765 (640x427)

  • Leftover cabbage (steamed)
  • Spinach
  • A packet of plain Amazing Meal
  • ~1/3 a frozen banana
  • ~1 cup almond milk (Larbs’s)
  • Handful of ice

Topped with avocado and chopped peppers. It was kind of like green gazpacho!

IMG_6769 (640x427)

VERY filling. But also VERY wheatgrassy. I had forgotten how wheatgrassy Amazing Grass is. I think my acquired taste has waned a bit! I much prefer Vega products for smoothie flavor and texture.

IMG_6773 (640x427)

Served with a glass of Food Should Taste Goods and pretzel nubs – add a handful more to this!

IMG_6779 (640x427)

IMG_6767 (640x427)

In other news, a ROACH was in the house this AM and Kanz rescued me!

More beach time is in store. And we’re going to out to dinner tonight. And we have the movie Hamlet to watch in conjunction with our book club discussion (The Tale of Edgar Sawtelle is somewhat based on Hamlet!)

See y’all later!

Not sure about amazing grass, but your abs look amazing!

It seems like when I try and eat like you do (for volume) and have a lot of big salads and fruit I get really bloated – especially in the stomach area. So even though its healthy and low calorie stuff it keeps my stomach from ever looking flat and can sometimes be uncomfortable. Any tips? Is there some way to prevent this or is my disgestive system just out of whack?!

    • Kaci Higgins says

      July 8, 2010 at 5:49 pm

My stomach does that too. It actually has for years. When I was in middle & high school, I thought I was so weird for it. I still bloat, but it varies according to what I’m eating…i.e. lots of veggies or other gas inducing foods. I’d suggest just cutting back slightly on your meals & try to supplement small snacks in between meals if you’re hungry so maybe your body won’t react so harshly to your larger meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner). I hope this helps!

I’m not really sure what to say. My inclination is to say that you will get used to it over time. Perhaps eat less raw veggies and cook them more? More water? I think it sounds like fiber overload, so perhaps just start slower. Smoothies tend to bother me less than big old salads.

I have been reading your blog for some time, and seeing you in a bikini just makes me so motivated! Your body is amazing and fit!!!! Its such a testament to how GOOD eating and exercise IS the solution to a permanent, healthy body!

I used to struggle with food, always thinking the less I eat, the more weight I would loss, but your such a perfect example that the exact opposite is true! You eat REAL amounts of REAL food and you STILL LOOK AMAZING!
Honestly, because of this blog (and HTP, and Fitnessista, etc.) I have learned to embrace real food. I am not afraid to eat peanut butter(the REAL kind with ingredients I recognize!), greek yogurt ( so good!), spinach, etc.

My wedding is in 310 days (haha) and I am going to strive to eat right, work out, and look hopefully as good as you! Thank you again for being such an inspiration to me!
