Toasted

Finally! A day in the life at the beach. No make-up, no glam – just sand + fun!

Kanz made us Challah French Toast today!

IMG_6755 (640x427)

IMG_6753 (640x427)

Cooked in butter because we didn’t have cooking spray

IMG_6754 (640x427)

I sipped coffee while he cooked

 this !

IMG_6752 (640x427)

IMG_6756 (640x427)

I had my slice with blobs of Oikos on either side (for protein!), half a mashed banana, some blueberries, some Nuttzo PF and chia seeds!

IMG_6757 (640x427)

The challah was good, but I prefer a nutty whole grain slice in my French toast 🙂

IMG_6760 (640x427)

I hit the beach turning point this morning. The point where you start worrying about how many days you have left and are surprised by the fact that you have more than you even think. Must be that puzzle relaxing me! 🙂

      Ha! Oops.

It had mixed results. We all nailed like 3/6 samples (we did double blind x2 rounds) but the other 3 were mixed. I think they all tasted the same, but the aromas were different. The bottles were a bit skunked. But I could detect aluminum in the ones most recently poured.

    Brioche is a good second.

Your vacation looks so quiet, serene and relaxing and as I’m watching the video I realized why . . . no one has any little kids. I think I’ve seen you make future references to having kids on here before, so enjoy vacations that are about you while you can:) Vacations with your kids will be fun, but in a whole different loud, non-serene, non-peaceful, exhausting kind of way!

Hello again, second time posting and I have to admit I am hooked to your blog. So refreshing and inspiring. I had a question though. I also see that you are using Chia seeds and so I went to the store looking for them but no luck. Would you consider them to be the same nutritionally as Flax seeds? And last question is, what is your take on protein? It does not seem that you eat a lot of it, (just the right amount in my opinion) but I am always being told to eat more lean proteins, except I usually am not in the mood for it. How many grams do you aim for in a day?

    Reply
    • Kath says

      July 8, 2010 at 1:15 pm

      🙂

Yes, I’d consider them as good as flax nutritionally. If not even more because they don’t have to be ground.

Protein is overrated unless you’re growing, healing or a body builder. I don’t aim for any amount of grams, but I do try to have some with each meal (which doesn’t have to be “high protein” foods – can be beans, breads, grains, peanut butter, etc)

    NOTE ON THE BEER TASTING:

Not a single person was able to correctly identify all three beers in each test. If the taste of aluminum is truly overwhelmingly strong, you should be able to pick it out every single time. This was not the case.

We’ve been making French toast with challah or brioche, and I definitely miss the hearty, whole grain factor. We’re curious about making a whole wheat brioche. I usually end up eating my usual oatmeal first to get in my filling, health whole grains, and then a small serving of French toast a bit later. Breakfast like a king and all that 🙂
