Havana Nights

Afternoon

IMG_0175 (640x480)

IMG_0177 (640x480)

IMG_0176 (640x480)

Somebody fed me half a beer while we played a game of bocci ball 🙂

IMG_0180 (480x640)

IMG_0182 (480x640)

IMG_0187 (640x480)

I’m not that good at bocci…

IMG_0197 (480x640)

…but I’m not bad either! Kanz and I won!

IMG_0199 (480x640)

IMG_0190 (640x480)

While we played, mom and dad got deserted on an island

IMG_0183 (640x480)

The tide was a’comin’ in strong!

IMG_0192 (640x480)

IMG_6797 (640x427)

Every night at the beach has a theme. Last night was fiesta, tonight we’re going to a restaurant called Havana’s. So we had a slight Cuban theme.

IMG_0202 (480x640)

Shake it!

IMG_0205 (480x640)

Slickers

IMG_0206 (480x640)

Cheese n Crackers appetizer

IMG_0207 (640x480)

OH, and mid afternoon we snacked on a few of Sweet N Salty By Design’s amazing pretzels!!!!!!!!!!!! I had a bite of the Resee’s – still good frozen and months later!

IMG_6783 (640x427)

Cocktail hour appeared on time – ‘round 6PM after our showers. I mixed myself a tonic + lime and worked on the puzzle.

IMG_6784 (640x427)

Did you know Dad and I are Puzzologists?

IMG_6794 (427x640)

This is one of the hardest we’ve ever done!

IMG_6796 (640x427)

Because beer is an art in this household…

IMG_6785 (640x427)

Kanz prepared a barley wine tasting for us

IMG_6787 (640x427)

4 different years of Sierra Nevada and one of his own:

IMG_6788 (640x427)

I LOVEEEEEEEEE barley wine. It’s like a rich, malty, flavorful beer. So much better than the “yellow” ones

IMG_6791 (640x427)

IMG_6801 (640x427)

Because we’re also a family of jocks, we decided to walk to dinner tonight

IMG_6804 (640x427)

About a mile to downtown Carolina Beach where there’s a county fair feel in the air

IMG_6806 (640x427)

IMG_6810 (640x427)

IMG_6809 (640x427)

Dinner tonight was at Havana’s. I love Craftsman Bungalows!

IMG_6814 (640x427)

Nice patio dining with live music

IMG_6821 (640x427)

Our family loves to share – a way to get 100% of the flavor for less money and calories. Mom and I shared a glass of red, and Kanz and Larbs shared a glass of white.

IMG_6823 (640x427)

There is only one kind of bread I don’t eat from the bread basket, and that’s a dry, cold french slice. Tonight’s rolls were doughy, and while they may have been par-baked, I still thought they were excellent.

IMG_6826 (640x427)

For dinner I got a big salad topped with blackened mahi mahi, minus the eggs and cheese (which I don’t care for on salads). The fish was excellent!

IMG_6830 (640x427)

Of course I shared my fish and had bites from around the table, but I ate most of it.

IMG_6833 (640x427)

Lucky us, Thursdays are fireworks nights! We witnessed a great show.

IMG_6841 (640x427)

My only request of beach week was one night out for ice cream. I love going out for dessert in the summer

 this !

IMG_6850 (427x640)

Per usual, we did some sharing.

I got Resee’s and shared with Matt and Larbs

IMG_6845 (640x427)

Who got a fudge sundae and shared with me!

IMG_6847 (640x427)

Plus fudge for the group!

IMG_6848 (640x427)

Fudge at the beach is the best!

IMG_6849 (640x427)

We took the beach for the walk home. It was so nice out!

IMG_6853 (640x427)

My feet hurt from sand!!

Nite 🙂

And I love sharing food and plates at dinner too! I’m sure you would love Greece if you went because the custom is to order a couple of entrees and appetizers and set them in the middle of the table and help yourself while talking and enjoying each other’s company for hours on end. Kath,

Absolutely LOVE THIS POST!! So many good memories you have evoked for me 🙂 I absolutely LOVED Leinenkugel’s Sunset Wheat when I was able to drink beer. With a slice of orange, I was in heaven! Thanks for the good memory 🙂

My family plays bocci ball at my grandparent’s neighborhood in Cali…much easier on the turf!! I bet that you would be an all-star on anything but sand…tough terrain!

And lastly, that cheese looks like stilton with apricots!! My favorite!! They sell it at Costco in bulk in the winter season…stock up because it is super cheap!

We went to Carolina Beach a few weeks ago and also walked to Havana’s to eat. Our meal was just mediocre.
