Color Change

I didn’t end up getting any relaxing in last night – Matt and I got started on hiring and worked until bedtime. Tonight I am scheduling a little R&R for sure!

IMG_8501Blog

I didn’t even hear the alarm go off this morning – Matt was up and in the shower and I woke up to an empty space in the bed. It’s always weird to feel that because I’m almost always the first one up! He went down to make oats while I got ready.

IMG_8505Blog

Why are the oats pale yellow? Because Matt cracked a farm fresh egg into the pot! I’ve noticed the more farm fresh the eggs, the brighter the yolk, and this bowl was a perfect pale yellow. We both loved the thicker – almost grit-like – texture of the oats too. I couldn’t taste the egg, but I could feel it.

IMG_8506Blog

On top I sprinkled some Hail Merry Grawnola [a past OpenSky deal] coconut and Honey Crunch PB, which was divine!

IMG_8498Blog

Did you notice anything different?

IMG_8510Blog

MY is that dark tea!! It was COFFEE!! I’ve been coffee-free for about a month and today’s rain and gloom prompted me to steal a half cup from Matt’s pot. It was half a tiny mug, so I sure hope I don’t feel much. I do intend to bring coffee back on demand, but I hope to not get addicted to the caffeine until at least next fall. I’m OK with the addiction through the winter months when I always want coffee anyways.

IMG_8509BlogIMG_8497Blog

I’m headed to the bakery soon for another interview, then a meeting, then home for lunch, then back over for 2 more interviews!

FYI, DANIELLE’S chips are going out on a great 40% off deal via my OpenSky newsletter this morning. I’m pretty sure it’s the lowest price they’ve been in history!! If you’re interested, be sure you’re signed up to receive the email.

IMG_6125Blog

Also, have you noticed all the celebs who are now on OpenSky!? Bobby Flay (!!), Alicia Silverstone, Dorie Greenspan, Holly Robinson Peete, The Cake Boss Buddy Valastro, Lulu Powers, The Judds!? Can’t believe my face is on the same page!!

Have a good one!

I didn’t notice that about OpenSky but that’s pretty awesome!

I give you tons of credit for EVER being coffee free. I definitely can’t live without my morning cup but I really wish I could!!

I’ve never had a farm fresh egg but now I’m super curious!

Love the pale yellow. I have never, ever put an egg, or even egg whites into my oatmeal before. It just seems odd to me, but I don’t really know why I think that? I love eggs, and definitely need a good amount of protein for breakfast, so it seems like it should be a no-brainer.

It’s gloomy here today, too! I like it.

I’ve been so impressed with you switching from coffee to tea. I just think I’d be in such a funk all day if I try that. I’m a Type 1 diabetic and caffeine does seem to have a slightly negative effect on my morning blood sugar levels so I should try to switch over to a less-caffeinated tea, but I’ve been a major morning coffee person for so long, I don’t know how to start!

the egg yolks are brighter because the chickens from these farms eat real food (not corn) so they get more beta-carotenes in their diet, thus producing the dark color. it also makes the farm fresh eggs better for you too! same reasons why free range chicken and beef tastes better.

Coffee suggestion: I normally drink 1/2 caf or decaf because I’m sensitive to the caffeine, but when I’m at my parents house (they always have full-bodied, full-caffeinated coffee), I make cafe au lait. I just heat half a mug of milk and add 1/2-1/3 coffee. Its really quite nice and cuts down on the caffeine by quite a bit (so, instead of having milk with your coffee, you’re having coffee with your milk).

btw, you all are doing wonders with the bakery! Can’t wait to see the finished product, just know that as a reader I’m really rooting for you (especially now when it must be exhausting and that “are we there yet” child’s voice is prolly annoying the heck out of you from the proverbial back-seat of your mind). Peace.

Here you’ll find a healthy mix of real-life meals made from whole ingredients balanced with the pleasures of life, including buttercream frosting and good wine. Plus a sprinkle of nutrition, home life, beauty, parenting, and travel.
