Change Of Menu

DSC06716

So I was going to make sugar cookies in the shape of Girls(on the run!) and (super)Stars butttttttttt….both the husband and my mom convinced that sugar cookies were hard to master and time intensive and I might want to do something easier since I had to have them by 2pm. I considered doing a healthy nutty oaty kind of cookie, but since kids are often picky about dried fruit, nuts and oats in their cookies, I went with old faithful: chocolate chunk! I used this Cooking Light recipe, which was highly rated: Chocolate Chip Cookies. I halved the recipe (but only got 22 cookies out of it) and used Hershey’s bar instead of choco chips because that’s all I had. I also gave them 12 minutes in the oven instead of 10.

DSC06721

And the nibbling was very minimal. I had a few tiny pieces of chocolate and one taste of dough before I cleaned the bowl. That’s it! I didn’t want to spoil my lunch. I also sipped hot tea as I mixed.

DSC06717

They turned out PEFECT!!! Well, I haven’t had one yet, but I can tell by smell and touch that they are my kind of chocolate chip cookie: buttery crispy on the outside (but not flat and hard – they still have body) with chunks of chocolate! I can’t wait to try ’em out at the party.

DSC06719

Even the smallest nibbles did push back my lunchtime until 12:45 or so. Since I’d been cooking, I didn’t feel like making anything intensive, so I just reheated our leftover portion of last night’s soup:

Off to study Micro for 2 hours – trying to stay warm! Perhaps I should sit by the space heater…

The RIGHT kind of sugar cookie is indeed hard to master. They can come out too thin, too cakey, too floury…that said, you could do it, but icing them may have taken too much time :p

i don’t think sugar cookies are hard to master, if you have the right recipe. they are a little bit time intensive since you have to make the dough, let it chill then roll, cut, bake, decorate. but i think the effort can really be worth it for gorgeous and or special cookies.

    SarahH ,
We were supposed to hear on Friday! No idea when we will. Makes me think I didn’t win and maybe they are waiting on the winner to do paperwork before announcing 🙁

    Erin ,
Heavens no – I am miserable cold!!

    Heather ,
The space heater is because 68* is just not warm enough for me (even with 3 layers on and hot tea!) and it’s not a good idea to have our heat on 70+*

    Greta ,
I saw it, but I didn’t buy it. I’m stuck on pumpkin butter!

    Fig ,
Thanks for sharing!! She’s got some awesome recipes!!

They’re ellie krieger’s triple chocolate– They’re by ellie, so you know they’re low caloric & they’re just chocolatey enough that they’re heavenly–seriously, they’re my favorite cookie of all time (and that’s considering ALL cookies– healthy ones & the not-so-healthy ones)

Let us know how the cookies taste!

I agree with Husband, rolling dough is time and labor intensive and usually the dough has to be refridged for awhile first anyway. I am sure they will loooove these cookies. 😀

Sugar cookies and the like are actually pretty basic and simple if you have a good recipe, but it does take longer because the dough needs to chill before you roll it out.

But you can’t go wrong with chocolate chip! Unless you’re not a fan, I’ve never met anyone who turned a chocolate chip cookie down. Chocolate chip-dried cherry is a great combo.

So cute of you to make cookies for the girls. For excellent sugar cookie recipes you should buy a copy of “King Arthur Flour’s Cookie Book” It’s like a cookie bible and has variations for each “staple” kind of cookie if you prefer crunchy, chewy or cakey, etc.
