Campus Adventures

After class I went on a little adventure searching for a spot of sunshine to work under. I found a rocking chair, but I couldn’t get wireless internet. Then I found a bench, but was too uncomfortable. Then I settled down at a table outside at the union, but the wind was blowing and the clouds covered over, and soon enough I found myself back in the academic building where my class was in my usual lounge!

Great lunch, but I was too cold to enjoy it!!! I am debating going to get hot tea, but the price is $2 or so for a tea bag and a wasteful plastic cup, so I think I will pass. I just need to start bringing a winter coat or something! My hands are icy!

Smoked Salmon on an Ezekiel English muffin with a spread of light cream cheese, dill and spinach. These english muffins freeze better than any other product I have tried to freeze!

Carrot strips.

Yum yogurt!

DSC04089

And this GIANT apple that I didn’t eat (yet) because I am too cold. I might have it on my way home – or in an hour before class.

With my lovely Built NY lunchbox and a seltzer.

BIG THANKS go to Jaclyn M. and Jennifer K. for their Team KERF donations!!!!!!!!!!!

Off to write another short paper on a primary research article on elderly alcohol consumption. Then Foodservice. I wish the sun would come back out and warm me up!!

I know it is an obvious comment but I LOVE my travel mug-I bring my green tea bags with me and then find hot water(often the tea/coffee places are kind enough to give me hot water 🙂
I highly recommend this for the cold days ahead-that was you can even sip your tea(which stays hot a long time in my stainless steel cup)during class if allowed…
    Stay cozy!Noella 🙂

i know this is so cheap but why don’t you keep a stash of tea in your car and bring a travel mug with you? cafs will usually give you hot water no problem!

    That apple is HUGE!

How do you like that lunch bag? I’m looking for one because usually my lunch components just float around in my regular bag (and get squished!).

I drink tea at school a lot too and it really does add up. Since I ride my bike to school I don’t like carrying anything more than what’s absolutely necessary, but I’ve been considering a travel mug nonetheless. If disposable cups weren’t so darn convenient!!

Being cold during lunch happens to me all the time at work. Luckily, I have my tea today.

Have you tried the Ezekiel hamburger buns? They’re an exciting recent find of mine.

Oh, and I just noticed that we had almost the exact same lunch, except I had roast beef instead of smoked salmon. Weird.

Good idea – except for lugging the tea mug around! I think when winter comes I will have to make this a regular practice though. I wish I could find a hot tea dispenser somewhere so I wouldn’t have to stand in line and ask the ladies in the coffee shop to fill it for me.

    Cyclist Kate,
Love it! It has tons of room to expand and is machine washable and collapses flat after lunch (given you don’t have tupperwares in it).

    runjess ,
Yes, I love those buns but haven’t had them in forever. Better put ’em on the list!

    Kath,

You should get a little heating coil that you can plug to warm the water in your mug (http://www.devitea.com/shop/product.php?productid=134)

Of course, you’ll have to find an outlet. Also, just let it cool before you pack it up again (maybe while you’re blogging or having lunch it’ll cool?)

These things are great and cheap ways to boil some water on the go.

Haha, Kath, what do you think you would do if you lived up north? =)

I have a weird question that you might have answered before… I’m also a sucker for trying out new products and I was wondering what kind of shampoo/conditioner/facewash/soap you use. Thanks!

Ah, I hear you! I HATE being cold! Of course I’m lucky enough to live in Wisconsin so I’m cold 99.9% of the time, but what can ya do? 🙂

    Have a great day everyone!!

Do you ever notice the Built NY lunch box making anything taste a little funny?

I have one and I love it too, but sometimes if I microwave my food after it has been in the bag it has a slight “scuba” material taste. I can’t figure out if this is from the bag, the tupperware or the microwave at work… just wondering if you’ve experienced the same.

I like to bring my own teabags and a mug wherever I go – yeah, it’s a hassle, but at least I get to pick exactly which tea I want and I know I’ll never have to worry about being without! I’m a bit of a tea-nerd anyway 🙂

I have the same lunch bag! You could always keep a couple emergency tea bags at the bottom of your lunch bag for spur of the moment cravings.

baggles- i bet it is from your tupperware if you are microwaving your food in it. I’ve never experienced a scuba taste, and I’ve used my builtny bag for months now

I did the whole tea mug thing throughout university, just plopped my traveler mug in the water bottle slot on my backpack and it was out of sight out of mind till I got cold and needed some hot tea.

    Gale ,
Brilliant to have a boil-to-go item!! I’m not sure it’s the perfect match for me being so on the go, but I guess I need to get to researching how to make heat!

    KatieMoo ,
I would turn into an icicle.

I currently use Dove Shampoo and Conditioner but I am very sick of it since we bought the super huge Costco version and have been using it up for months now. I need something new! I used to love Herbal Escences Citrus Lift – it REALLY gave me volume – but I haven’t used it in a while. I like Olay bar soap and Olay facial scrub with microbeads because it smells like fresh sunscreen.

    baggles ,
My Built NY bag has no smell at all, which I why I love it. Maybe you should machine wash it?

    Hi Kath and Readers,

Question: I just tried and loved my first package of Ezekiel English Muffins. I love them so! I find them quite versatile and use them for sandwich bread, too. Are the other Ezekiel products as good or should I stick with the muffins? Thanks KERF.

I love Chobani and yogurt in general but find it hard to rationalize paying $1.00 ++ for each one every time I go shopping. I basically save them as a “now and then” treat. Does anyone have another cheaper brand they like that’s similar? thanks!

I might just have to stop in a introduce myself! And steal some of your wonderful hot water 🙂

    Alyssa ,
    <3 smoked salmon!

    HangryPants ,
The others are good too!! I think the burger and hot dog buns are really great. The bread too, but it’s not as chewy.

    love that yogurt,
Trader Joe’s greek is just as good (better?) and is $2.99 for 16 oz. Not cheap, but the best deal there is for greek.
