Breakfast In A Jar

Morning all 🙂

I slept well last night in the cool air. It sure is fall around here! Can you believe that we STILL haven’t turned on our air conditioning this summer!??!???! This is the SOUTH. It’s supposed to be sweltering and humid. What’s going on! I can’t complain though 🙂

Barney Butter was on the menu this AM:

IMG_9435 (1024x768)

I’m all out now. Debating getting more. I’m still on a nut butter hiring freeze until I work through some of my stock. It’s shrinking a lot though. Lots of jars just have a few tbsp left, so I was sad/glad to get this one out of the cabinet.

The mix:

  • 1/3 cup oats, 1/3 cup milk, 1/3 cup water
  • 1 tbsp dried raspberries
  • Vanilla + LOTS of cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup blueberries, stirred in at end
  • 2 tbsp coconut, stirred in at end
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds, stirred in at end
  • Jar of Barney Butter

Good breakfast! It has been chilly in Ohio as well which is bizarre even for us mid-westerners!

Kath, I have a question, about Yogi Tea. I just picked up the Yogi Peach Detox tea, it says not to drink if pregnant. I’ve seen that advisory on other teas and wonder why? It is caffine free, I wonder what ingredient causes the concern.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

It’s been a rainy and cool summer in NYC as well – it was only in the 60’s yesterday! Oatmeal in jar is perfect for a cool morning.

Jean – I often drink Yogi Detox tea and I’ve noticed it has a lot of herbs. Maybe these aren’t proven to be safe for pregnancy? I think some of the herbs act as mild diuretics/laxatives.

    3 things =)

[1] i l.o.v.e. that you put peanut butter in oatmeal [or any of the nut butters] people think i am weird when i tell them i do that

[2] also, most people i know do not eat breakfast..or they force themselves in the morning to eat something small..when i wake up i am HUNGry!

[3] it is great to finally find someone who eats as frequently as i do..people also think I’m weird that I eat breakfast + need a snack by 10am + then lunch + then snack at 3pm..my husband always jokes that I have a tapeworm..but I looked that up and it actually makes you not want to eat 😉

    happy wednesday!

It’s been a super weird summer in Minneapolis too! We’ve hardly needed the AC (lucky because we don’t have it!) and last week it dropped to the 50s!

Your breakfast looks divine as always and as always I have table-envy.

Thanks for introducing the cool new blog!

It’s been weird here weather-wise, too! This past week has been much cooler for us! Waking up with temps in the 50’s and 60’s! I can’t believe it! Makes for a beautiful day, though (except when it’s raining like today)!

Love the breakfast! I haven’t put blueberries in my oatmeal in quite some time… been such a banana freak lately. I need to do that!

I think we’ve turned on our air at night once or twice. Usually just the fan for us because the screens fell out of our windows and we haven’t had time to replace them. Our electric bill is loving us though. 🙂

I love the oats in the leftover jar. I’m all for not washing the bowl. After making my own almond butter I’m excited to try other nut butters. My mom had sunflower seed butter from Trader Joes and it was amazing! I may have to buy myself a jar.

Loving the cooler temps here in MO – only 80s during the day & 60s at night. Humid, but that is normal.
Kids aren’t so thrilled as it means it is too cool to play in the sprinkler & it is not helping my tomatoes! They need 70s at night to ripen so I need it to warm up a bit. lol

after having freshly ground almond butter that you grind yourself at the store, it’s been impossible for me to find jarred AB that tastes anywhere as good. Plus no added stuff like sugars and oil. PB I can substitute. You have to try it.

I haven’t tried the oats-in-a-jar trick because it takes me forever to go through a jar of almond butter…I’m getting there, though…I guess it wouldn’t be too healthy if I had like, 1/3 cup of AB with my oats…sure would keep me full for awhile though 🙂

    Jean ,
There are a handful of herbs that are not recommended for pregnant women, and some like St. John’s Wort can interfere with birth control pills (at least that’s the last I heard). I’m not sure which herbs in your tea could cause any problems though, as I’m not an herb expert.

    Barbara ,
I’ve got sunflower seed in stock!

    megan ,
Dakota, High Five Fiber, Flax Oat Bran or Whole Grain Goodness!
