Baby Got Backyard

A glimpse into our back yard!

IMG_7120-2Blog

We currently have a tiny little porch off the kitchen – the new blogging perch!

HOWEVER, we have plans to build a screened-in, three-season porch out here sometime in the relatively near future! Something were I can really spread out with my foodscapes : )

Do you see our newly inherited trampoline beyond!? If anyone in Cville wants to buy it from us for super cheap, send me an email!

IMG_7121-2Blog

Beyond the porch we have this awesome built in deck – perfect for parties! Needs some pruning first..

IMG_7122-2Blog

The stairs could use a little TLC too..

IMG_7123-2Blog

And then we have oatmeal!!

IMG_7130-2Blog

I am LOVING my new kitchen!!! Although it’s updated, at first I was thinking I might find it too small to grow into, but now that I’m cooking in it, I’m loving the space!! I’ve never had a U-shaped kitchen (only galley-styles) and the experts are right about work triangles!

IMG_7133Blog-2

IMG_7124-2Blog

Rolled oats with frozen banana (we are out of fresh!), chia seeds, cottage cheese, Jam According to Daniel, Sunflower butter and coconut.

IMG_7127-2Blog

Adagio coconut tea – mmm! I need a cute tea kettle. Going to go by some of our recycled goods shops to look for something vintage charming soon.

IMG_7128-2BlogIMG_7132-2Blog

I’m home this morning. Still can’t even think about going to formally exercise – my body needs to rest when it’s not unpacking! The house feels so much more livable now, but I still have 1,000 small things to do.

At noon I’m going to the bakery for lunch, some work, a radio marketing thing with Matt, then a phone call, grocery pick-up and then dinner. More home improvement projects to come!

I love your backyard, especially the deck! Our old apartment had an L-shaped kitchen with a BIG pantry and lots of counter space. Our current place has a smaller, galley-style kitchen, but I think they both have their advantages. One of my requirements when we end up getting a new place is a kitchen with a lot of counter space or an island!

If I were you,I would reconsider keeping the trampoline.
I have been reading lately how it is a great workout and
fun too-could be the perfect thing when you are not in the mood for
    a “formal ” workout!
Supposedly it is second only to skipping as far as burning calories!!
plus it is supposed to be amazing for the whole body, organs
    and even skin?!
Sheesh,I say keep it and it would be fun to read about your
    exercise on it 🙂

    Hey Kath (and others),

I’ve been reading for a while in hiding (love the blog btw) but I just have to comment on this post! Hope my little product advertisement is OK- if not, feel free to delete my comment, Kath!

The green bowl in the photos was actually designed by two friends of mine from college- they’re amazing, creative, and fun people who were upset that when they dipped a chip in a bowl of salsa, the chunky salsa would always fall off the side of the bowl. Such a problem :). SO they created that lovely bowl you see there- the Salsa bowl- as a solution. It has a lip on one side that curves slightly in so you get the perfect scoop of salsa on your chip anytime. And, as seen here, its beautiful and a great bowl to hold all your morning oats.
Sold here: http://www.uncommongoods.com/product/salsabol (comes in red, yellow, and green).

Sorry for the lengthy description but I just love these bowls (and the creative team behind them) so I got excited to see it being put to use here. Enjoy the day!

Is your home insurance higher from the trampoline? I ask because when we bought our house, there was skateboard half-pipe in the backyard and we requested the old owners remove it because 1. we don’t skateboard and 2. it would have made our home insurance go up. I just wondered if a trampoline would do the same.

And moving totally counts as a workout.

I say sell the trampoline. They are huge liabilities for home owners because you can get sued if a neighbor’s kid sneaks into your yard to use the trampoline and gets injured. These are the type of things you have to worry about now as a home owner, unfortunately.

Oh man, a trampoline would be SO MUCH FUN!

Although, I have to echo what others have said about the liability – in fact, when my little brother was in junior high, he was on our neighbor’s trampoline (with the neighbor’s kid), a fell/wash pushed off during a friendly wresting match. Broke both the radius and ulna in BOTH arms with nasty pressure breaks, had to have an upper-body cast, surgery, physical therapy, the works – and our/my parents health insurance wouldn’t cover it since it was a trampoline accident on someone else’s property. The neighbor’s homeowner’s insurance had to take it, and they ended up dropping the neighbor’s coverage due to the event. It was a big, ugly mess.

If you haven’t found a tea pot….check this out on the foundary. Lots of cute kettles and pots! It’s like groupon but for home goods.
