All In The Cards

IMG_5003Blog

Two stellar cards I have received this week!

This one was hand-painted by my grandmother. Love the classics!

IMG_5004Blog

And KERF reader Molly found this one and knew it was meant for me. Love that number.

IMG_5005Blog

We are deep into the dreary days of January and I’m wondering where the sun has gone. I think I need one of those sunshine lamps. I’m trying to embrace the coziness as much as I can, but sometimes I just want to cry when I think about crickets chirping, warm breezes and evening strolls at dusk.

IMG_5013Blog

Burgers in particular remind me of summertime, so I had one for lunch. A No Bull Burger! They now sell these [frozen] at my Whole Foods so it was easy to grab and go. Unfortunately they were more expensive than buying them at the farmer’s market (darn mark-up) so that’s another thing I can’t wait for warm weather for.

I stuffed a burger into a slice of High Five, sandwich style with K+M and a leaf

IMG_5009Blog

Side items included a Cara-Cara orange (this flavor is responsible for the bright orange hue)

IMG_5008Blog

And a pile of kettle chips found in the pantry

IMG_5010Blog

I’m trying to fake summertime. I can almost do it if I close my eyes and think about cold beer and grilled veggies!

You are making me sad…I miss summer so much. I feel like a hibernating animal. It was cold this week, but it is supposed to be 60 next week. I am ready to get busy in the garden, too bad I have a few more months to go.

Your burger looked awesome, and I adore Kettle chips.

Hang in there getting through the dark, cold, winter days. Ugh. Not something I am cut out for; thus cannot live in cold weather places ever again. The cold weather and winter negatively impacts me so much and I know that so I need to live where it’s warmer and sunnier. And I hope you get some warmer and sunnier weather soon!

Your grandma is quite the talented artist…wow!

It was a great retro diner, good lunch spot, seemed really clean (often I think diners have a layer of greasy film and dust over everything, but not there), servers were extremely friendly, and food was fresh and tasty. I think I liked my veg burger more than my boyfriend liked his beef burger. Love it when that happens! 😉

The Nook is great for breakfast/brunch–they have a great menu of both basics and a few more “creative” items. It’s best in the summer (as are most things, right?) when you can sit outside on the mall.

No Bull Burgers are now available at Bodo’s, too!

Your grandmother’s painting if worthy of a frame…does she have the original framed? I have never heard of Cara Cara oranges…where do they originate from? I love how you cut it up! We have a very cold minus 10 today with lots of snow that fell yesterday…luckily the sun is shining for added sparkle. Do you find taking Vitamin D in the winter helps combate those winter blues? I started last winter and find it has made a difference…either that or it is having a placebo effect! lol

You have been eating almost an orange a day. I know you wish for summer, but you can’t buy oranges in the summer unless they have grown of the USA. Be grateful for the foods of the winter if when it is cold because some of them can’t be had in the summer.

Today it’s 70* but last night’s low was 29*. I think it’s been abnormally warm here in NC this year. I was ready for snow but now I just wish the weather would make up its mind!

I so know what you mean about missing summer. We got a few inches of snow in Boston last night, and while it’s really pretty (before it gets all slushy), I’m tired of having to put on two pairs of socks, boots, a scarf, hat, and so on, just to go outside.

Ha…try faking summertime in this Chicagoland snow storm that began this morning w/no end in sight. That said, I just came back from a slippery two hour hike and thoroughly enjoyed the workout and the peaceful fall of the flakes. But, yes…summer weather would be my preference 🙂

I’m going to look for those burgers at my WF, though i suspect yours carries them b/c they are considered a local vendor and thus attractive to stores in your area. WF is good about supporting local, independent start-ups.
