A Piece Of Kenya

While I was on my trip I looked for things I could share with one of you and of course tea was the obvious choice! This is Lipton tea made exclusively from the tea at the Kericho estate. Leave a comment to be entered to win a handful of tea and this funky animal print ring!

IMG_3656 (1024x768)

I have this ring in zebra and love it already. This ring fits on my middle finger, which is on the small side, so it would probably fit on either a ring or middle finger. Or could be put on a necklace too.

Good luck!

***

I woke up at 3:30 this morning ready to go workout – too bad I had to wait 2 more hours! At 5:30 I was no longer in the mood, but I went anyways. Matt has been getting up with me on Mondays, which means we get to bike there. Little did we know that it was in the low 40s and I was in shorts and a fleece. FREEZING!!

At the gym I did 30 minutes on the ET and about 10 of lifting. I felt like I was in slow motion – I still don’t feel 100% – so I took it easy.

I was slow getting ready too and Matt made the oats 🙂

IMG_3661 (1024x768)

The mix:

  • 1/2 oats, 1/2 9 grain mix, water, soymilk, 1/2 banana, 1 big chopped date
  • 2 heaping tbsp cottage cheese
  • Toasted almonds
  • 1/2 Luna Tea Cake crumbled
  • Spoonful Naturally More PB

IMG_3660 (1024x768)

Delish!! Esp. with my cool new spoon

IMG_3662 (1024x768)

IMG_3659 (1024x768)

Enjoyed with a cup of the Kericho Estate Tea

I’m off to a full day of classes. Should be getting my midterms back today too! I’ve got another test on Wednesday, a project due Friday that I haven’t started and a Biochem killer test on Monday, so this week needs to be super productive.

Good luck getting back in America-mode. Sometimes I find it helps, when I’ve just returned from a fabulous trip, to take 10 minutes every day and set them aside for thinking about 5 wonderful things you miss, and 5 wonderful things about being back. People who don’t experience a wonderful experience with you, sometimes expect you to reintegrate naturally into your old life (especially if it wasn’t a really long trip). But it’s hard!

    Kath,
Welcome home! I know I’ve said this before, but I love that you and Matt often workout together and then he makes you breakfast. So sweet. My husband runs runs runs, and there is no way I could keep up with him. He’s not much into yoga, and so we never get to workout together. 🙁 Oh well, at least we both do it on our own, right?

Thanks for the giveaway. Just finished off a mug of tea myself and could use some more. Love the ring too!

Best of luck with all your school tests/projects this week.

Love the idea of tea added into my morning routine, I hope I get picked! ( but I’ll still read your blog if I don’t 😉 )

    Kimberly ,
What do you mean about breakfast for dinner? Sounds good to me!

    Re. Tea,
I am not sure if you can buy the Kericho tea in stores. My guess is no, or maybe just specialty stores?

It tastes like Lipton but with a rounder, more clay pot taste, which I think is reminiscent of the red soil there.

    Kelly ,
I think what surprised me most was how beautiful and lush it was. I always thought of Africa as more savannah and the tropical lush climate was a surprise. However, the landscape changed so much between Nairobi and Kericho that you can hardly generalize. I was also surprised by how big the estate was but how well run it appeared to be. I think the same establishment in the US would have been dirty and unkept, but everything was pristine.

    Connie ,
Yes, we did see the flamingos!

    Ashley ,
    How cool!!

    New Readers,
    Thanks for delurking!!

    Carrie H,
    Thanks!

    Hi Kath!
Thanks for your wonderful blog. My husband and I live in Honduras, and I recently stumbled upon your posting while searching for creative oatmeal recipes. Ever since discovering your site, I have been completely inspired! My husband I have been enjoying gourmet oatmeal and do as best as we can to replicate many of your creations. Although some of the products are difficult to find here, we have gotten creative and even made up some combinations of our own. Thanks so much for sharing your story and inspiring others!
p.s. I also like reading about your life in NC…we lived in Raleigh before relocating to Comayagua, Honduras.

    God bless!

your morning oats look super delish in your new bowl! I am a HUGE fan of REAL African style utensils/decorative items(not the fake stuff at TJ maxx although I may have purchased said fake things at one point or another). Love this ring! I am a huge animal print fan.
