Worm Killer

April 28, 2009

Hi guys!! I’ve already been out and about this morning. In fact, it was pretty much the perfect morning. I woke up at 6:00 with the sun just rising. I listened to good tunes on the radio for about 30 minutes! Then I got up, put on my workout clothes (I’ve got a lot of group studying today, so I decided to work out first thing) and stepped into the sunshine for a bike ride to the Y. But I noticed there were TONS of worms on the sidewalks. So many I could not swerve to avoid them. I feel so bad for going over a few on my bike :(

Do any of you watch the Quail Hollow Golf PGA Tourney? I rode right through it this AM! At the gym I did an easy 30 minutes on the ET and biked back home. Loved the warm weather and sun!

After a nice shower (in a very clean house!) I debated a smoothie, yogurt + cereal, but I decided I wanted comfort foods for breakfast today: oats + coffee.

And they were oat-so-good!

The mix:

  • 1/3 cup oats, soy milk, water, pinch salt, half overripe banana
  • 3 heaping tbsp wheatberries
  • Sprinkle cinnamon (I always forget to add it!)
  • Spoonful coconut butter
  • 2 tbsp AgavePlus granola
  • 1 tbsp salty peanuts
  • Spoonful Barney Butter

Fabulous!

Frothy Spring Blend.

With my flowers.

The Love Ducks even made another appearance! They are so cute :)

Kelsey is coming over in a bit for studywalking + a pot luck lunch. We both admitted we were missing the pot lucks already! It’s good because I am out of vegetables (and didn’t grocery shop this week b/c of our vacation on Saturday) so that’s what she’s bringing.

Then at 2pm I’m meeting Victoria for Biochem studying.

Have a nice day!

When we were little, my sister Sarah and I used to take walks with my grandmother. If there were worms on the sidewalk, Sarah would pick them up – every one she saw – and put them safely in the grass. This was fine with my grandmother; she walked slowly anyway. For my dad, not so much – we had places to go! “You can’t save all the worms,” he said. That phrase actually applies to quite a few things in life – sometimes you have to just let some things go.

Hi Kath! I’m excited that you mentioned the Quail Hollow Championship! I am coming down this weekend for the tournament for the third year in a row. It’s always so much fun! And it makes me want to move to Charlotte!

I swear, there were the HUGEST worms I’ve ever seen in my work parking lot this morning. One was at least 18″ long!

Hi Kath!
Have you always been an earlybird? It seems so easy for you get up and work out and I’m trying to make it a habit, too. Any tips?
Beautiful bouquet! Spring has definitely made it to your neck of the woods!

Cinnamon makes oatmeal THAT much better, I always put a ton of it in! I also put it on vanilla ice-cream, A-mazing!

Your oatmeal looks so delicious! Where do you get wheatberries? I’ve heard of them, but I’m not sure where to find them.

Yuck on the worms … I’m so not a worm fan!

It’s been super rainy in Michigan, but during a break in the showers I went for my walk yesterday and thought the same exact thing–it smells like worms. Ended up dodging the squiggly suckers the whole way. Yuck.

I so know what you mean about the worms. I’ve been walking on a greenway around a pond, and it has been covered with worms, lately! I hate to squish them!

You’re right about Spring Blend being some of the BEST coffee!! I bought a bag a couple weeks ago and just LOVE the way it smells when brewing. Yummers! I’ll have to stock up before they take it off the shelves (which I assume will be when summer arrives!). :-)

MRyan ,
If we weren’t going out of town, I’d meet you to say hello :)

Lara (Thinspired),
You MUST MUST go to bed early!!! I count backwards to get 7.5-8.5 hours. If I don’t get in bed by 9/10 I can’t get up at 5/6. It’s the key!

Sarah ,
Hope you like it!

Kristilyn (The Food Journey),
I buy them in bulk from EarthFare. Bob’s Red Mill sells them too.

Michelle Hisae,
Charleston for a wedding!

Courtney ,
Homegoods.

amy ,
It’s 2.2 miles – about a 10-15 minute ride depending on stoplights, hills and my energy.

Are you talking about the canker worms? From the trees? I live in Charlotte, too, and just stumble upon your blog. Remember they sprayed for canker worms from the air/airplanes last year … apparently they still hatch, but then they die. I’d rather run over ‘em on the sidewalk than having them dripping down on me from the trees … they were always really bad at Freedom Park.

My hubby got comp tickets to the Wachovia/Quail Hollow the past two years, and I’m hoping for last-minute luck again. I would never watch golf on TV, but it’s so beautiful out there and fascinating to watch it all happen.

Cheers!
