When You’re Up, You’re Up

August 23, 2012

I’m tuckered out – estimating I walked about 5 miles today. Too much for this stage of the game! I’m going to counter it by spending the next few hours on the couch : )

I met new-to-Cville Alicia for a walk and we looped all around town. She is about to start a PhD program at UVA! [This is us all freshened up before lunch – I was a sweaty mess after those first 4 miles!]

Necessary refreshment while I showered. I didn’t want to make my legs walk back downtown for lunch, but driving and paying for parking was just not an option. I’d have to walk anyways!

My mom said this morning when I was talking about this waiting game: “Do you have some girlfriends you could meet for lunch?”

Why actually I already had a lunch planned! A few pregnant friends, a mom friend, Alicia and I all got together for lunch at Eppie’s today. My friend Kate [who is due the day before me] didn’t make it because she might be having her BABY today!

Rosie, Jen and Me at 30, 32 and just-shy-of 39 weeks pregnant!

Lynsie also joined us with Gabe and Declan.

Lots of coloring going on! Parenting practice!

I always flip flop between the Santa Monica salad and the veg plate so I got a hybrid today. Just now occurred to me that there wasn’t a star protein in this lunch – I should have gotten the black beans instead of the greens : )

The salad is my fav with goat cheese, dates and corn

And on the side I got sweet potato and collards

And as always, the plate comes with their cake-like cornbread!

Yum + filling!

I have several bits of writing to do, but I am postponing them for a little R&R with my feet up. Mom also keeps telling me to rest!

I hope when I get pregnant I’m able to find a nice group of friends to share it with!

3 Carly @ Snack Therapy August 23, 2012 at 2:00 pm

Sounds like you’re keeping busy : ). Those collard greens look amazing! And that salad… YUM!

Listen to mom! She’s probably on pins and needles during the waiting game as well!

5 Michelle (Peachy Palate) August 23, 2012 at 2:05 pm

8 Brie @ Coxswain Dilemma August 23, 2012 at 2:23 pm

What a cutie, that Declan! Very popular name as of late, I’m realizing… I think I’ve met at least 5 of them in the past few months!

9 Annette @FitnessPerks August 23, 2012 at 2:25 pm

Yay for friends & lunch dates!

10 Cait's Plate August 23, 2012 at 2:34 pm

At least ya got a little protein in the cheese! :)

I’m always so jealous of the cornbread at this place…I need to stop in Cville next time I pass through! We’re always in such a rush when we go through but I hope to do a weekend just there sometime.

Salad looks awesome!!

13 Katie @ Peace Love and Oats August 23, 2012 at 2:38 pm

Hey, all that walking might get labor going more quickly! I hope everything goes well for your friend on labor!

14 JessicaE August 23, 2012 at 2:50 pm

I swear that your body is more likely to go into labor when you are relaxed.. hence all the times it happens in the middle of the night 😉

Lots of lovely baby bumps!! Colouring was one of my favourite activities to do with my mum when I was little. It would keep me entertained for hours, and it’s been AGES since I coloured anything. Maybe it’s time to channel my inner 4 year old….. 😉

16 Amanda @ flecksofgreen August 23, 2012 at 3:28 pm

I have got to pick up some dates!

17 Kelsey August 23, 2012 at 3:36 pm

22 Mom August 23, 2012 at 5:23 pm

Congratulations. Love the name! We had a darling boy at my old church in MA named Whit and he just came into my mind yesterday!

23 Christina @ The Beautiful Balance August 23, 2012 at 5:41 pm

I love that combo on the salad. I hope baby KERF comes soon! :)

24 Suzanne August 23, 2012 at 6:09 pm

Have you tried taking a magnesium citrate supplement? You could be deficient, which would mess with your sleep. You could try Natural Calm (tastes horrible) or just get a pill.

25 Megan @ Megan's Munchies August 23, 2012 at 6:20 pm

Looks like a yummy lunch! Hope you get some good rest!

26 Mari Bennett August 23, 2012 at 6:32 pm

Hey Kath! I absolutely love using Greek yogurt to sneak in some protein, but I wasn’t sure about what kind was best. My local grocery has the “Greek Gods Yogurt” brand that offers both “all natural” and “Low fat” plain yogurt. I always get plain so that I have the option of adding other flavors to it, and I usually buy the “Low fat” kind. Unfortunately the store did not have that kind, so I was left to buy the “All natural” yogurt, is this kind that has more fat in it make it unhealthy for me? Or are those fats a good thing?

27 KathEats August 23, 2012 at 6:46 pm

Low fat is great, and full fat is fine too – you will probably just eat a little less of it because it’s filling.

28 Karen August 23, 2012 at 6:41 pm

Mom is always right…REST.

Sweet dreams :)

29 Amanda Plyler August 23, 2012 at 6:53 pm

Ok, so still can’t stop reading and looking up recipes! Especially the oatmeal ones. Made the hot oatmeal this morning and bought chia seeds today to use in the future! Also, love some collards and cornbread, I live in NC and there is nothing like southern fare:)

30 Farida August 23, 2012 at 7:13 pm

Hi ,, I see you are pregnant and do running? is it safe? I’m pregnant too and i tried to walk fast but the tightness in my ab hurt me ? what do you think ? did u pass 5 month or so ?

31 KathEats August 23, 2012 at 7:28 pm

No running – just walking!

32 Farida August 23, 2012 at 9:23 pm

okok Thanks for reply!

33 Edith August 23, 2012 at 7:15 pm

The cornbread looks amazing!!
You are really getting all your faithful followers exciting about the baby….I think we are all just waiting for the post “I am in labour” :)

34 Jenica August 23, 2012 at 7:16 pm

Well…I’ve heard that moderate exercise like walking can help induce labor! Rest well.

35 Cherleen @ My Personal Finance Journey August 23, 2012 at 7:50 pm

The salad looks yummy. What kind of dressing did you have for it? I may have corn and goat cheese only and find a substitute for dates as I do not eat dates. I drool over your cornbread!… Good luck to Alicia on his PhD program!

36 KathEats August 23, 2012 at 7:53 pm

A champagne vinaigrette!

37 Cherleen @ My Personal Finance Journey August 23, 2012 at 8:18 pm

That sounds great! Thanks.

38 Pam August 23, 2012 at 9:40 pm

I love a big sweet potato with greens for lunch!
So cute all you pregnant ladies :)

39 Meagan August 23, 2012 at 9:50 pm
