The beginnings of the most beautiful days of the year: CRUNCH + WISP = CRISP
Here’s the route we bike to Karen’s! It’s rather nice
Somebody give this girl a SHOWER!
But not without at least one killer hill in each direction
This one always leaves we out of breath.
Or a DONKEY!! This is just for you, Murph!!
Mucho progress was made on the house! Karen’s landlord agreed to paint, and it looks fabulous with the bright, airy color and her cool furniture!
Here’s what it looked like before
And here’s the after:
Even though her dishes went from cabinet –> paper + box –> 1 day in a U-haul, she still insists on washing EVERYTHING again because she says a roach could have crawled on it!! That’s a lot of washing…
We wrapped up at the house around 4 and headed back to our place. I had a Larabar – the Chocolate Nut Brownie – for a snack.
It had been in my bag and was all melted! Yummy. I liked the flavor, but I really don’t crave a gooey chocolate brownie most afternoons. It was almost too dessert like for a snack for me.
We did inherited Emily + Casey’s big flatscreen (thanks guys!!!). But there’s a humming / vibration noise that’s pretty bad so we’re deep in inspection stage. We THINK we have solved it with electrical tape, but I’m still pretty nervous..
I took a hot shower and was presented with a mini mug of Moose Drool for cocktail hour
Dressed for dinner!
‘Twas a lovely walk over to Fry’s Spring Station
A very cool old gas station-turned-restaurant
I wasn’t really in a beer mood, but they had a few fun ones on tap and a beer sampler, so I got Matt to share it with me so I could try them.
All from the Jefferson Street Brewery in Lynchburg:
- Light Golden Ale
- Orange Honey Wheat
- Amber Ale
- Chocolate Stout
To eat I started with the chopped salad. Could have used a bit more chopped veggies and a bit less chopped other stuff
And we split two delicious pizzas
The Herbivore, which include artichokes, olives, sundried tomatoes
And the Wild Mushroom, always a fav!!
I had 3 slices – delish!
Matt and I are going to snuggle on the couch with a movie. Karen’s already in bed! She’s worn out from the move.
Tomorrow = Farmer’s Market!

I adore the shout out to Murphy. lol.
I really love all the windows in Karen’s new place. Cool.
Great pic of you with the bright yellow beer, by the way. Have a good weekend!
nom Nom NOM that pizza looks fabulous… Have a GREAT weekend !!
and BAAAH HAAA… the DONKEY !!
poor Murphy…
Sounds like the perfect evening!
Oh, I love the photos of the leaves on the ground. There’s hope that fall [weather] is actually around the corner. It’s hard to tell with these 90 degree days we’ve been getting in Atlanta.
P.S. Those pizzas look delish! And, I loved that a gas station was redeveloped into a cute restaurant! Yay!
Ha! I thought of Murphy when I saw the donkey
What a cute dress
If you were here in MN you’d have to add jeans underneath and a big sweater — it is so cold and windy here already!
LOL! Love the donkey. Murphy, however, wasn’t too sure about it!
Enjoy your evening. Looks like a great road for biking. Love the black and white photo with the beer.
How fun! My boyfriend and I just got home from Waterstone Pizza, where Jefferson Street Brewery is
We got the Orange Honey Wheat tonight. How’d you like them? They’re not the best beers I’ve had, but I think they’re pretty good
LIked ‘em! The Amber was my fav
Yum, I do lean more towards the Amber myself
I love that Karen insisted on washing all of her dishes; I would have done the same thing!
the colors look great!
no way I would wash all those dishes!
love the donkey. poor murphy
Karen’s place is gorgeous!! and those pizzas look phenomenal!
That new house looks so quaint and lovely!! Pizza looks delicious…I just had some amaaazing pizza last night…makes me want more!
We just noticed that Pizza place on our way back yesterday, its new since we were last home. Is it yummy? If you love pizza, you guys need to come to Dr Hos humble Pie with us, in our ‘hood!
You two are such great kids! You all look so happy! Enjoy the movie!
Karen’s house is gorgeous
and how awesome you got a new entertainment table and TV! Score!
Love her house!
That looks like a very cool place! The picture where you and the background are dark and the beer is bright is really great.
I know that you and your husband are already super busy, but your next business should be a brewery touring service. Matt could share his expertise and you could share your nutritional feedback. You all enjoy such yummy beers all the time! Just a thought.
I think that would make an excellent TV show, don’t you Food Network
So fun that you’re just a nice bike ride away from Karen’s. Driving those moving trucks always makes me so nervous, and I’ve only done it around town — Karen’s pretty brave!
That pizza looks awesome! We were planning to have pizza tonight (Sicilian with a traditional Philly sweet sauce) but ended up with Thai. Go with the flow I suppose. I think I might have a pizza bagel for breakfast
Have a good weekend!
The new larabars haven’t hit Canada yet, but I am excited to try them once they get here. However, I find them a little small for a snack (size wise, not cals), so I prefer to have snacks the contain more volume (yogurt, fruit, etc).
I love the pic that is almost completely black and white except for the beer! So cool!
What a beautiful home!
That pizza looks great. Love the pic of you and the yellow beer:)
I love your dress!
I loveee the first photo of the leaves &&& that beer sampler sounds right up my alley – chocolate!
The new place looks awesome…and my mom is completely the type who would re-wash all the dishes. It’s wonderful how close of a ride the house is to you guys! Dinner looked fabulous…enjoy the farmers market tomorrow, can’t wait for the photos!
That’s a tasty looking pizza!
Those pizzas look amazing! I wish all gas stations would turn into pizza places!
I love Karen’t new house! And we had Italian tonight too…canneloni, salad, and garlic roll :> Mmmm!
Karen’s house is beautiful …. nothing like pizza and beer to end a day of moving !! …
Followed Matt’s recipe for crackers and they turned out awesome !! , but it’s highly addiciting too , i gave up dessert since I wanted more crackers
Looking pretty as always and love the dress…
What a nice bike route! I bet in no time at all you’ll laugh at the thought of those hills. And that pizza… the only way to end a Friday night!
Lol – I’m with Karen on the washing the dishes thing, which is a pain as we have moved a lot lately…
we definitely drove past this restaurant 3 weeks ago on our way home from wintergreen (subway sammich stop right nearby!) and it looked pretty cute. love the beer sampler too, chocolate stout is so rich & yummy.
Karen’s new space looks great in that color! Wishing her much joy in her new home.
YUM YUM YUUUUM That dinner looks delicious!!
I woul dhave just put all the dishes in the cabinet and called it a day!
Kath, I love your dress and sandals! Where did you get them?
I want to know where you go the dress, too. Seriously, I want to order one. LOLed when reminded about Murphy’s Donkey-Phobia. Creepy donkey carts!
Gorgeous house!
That is such a gorgeous house!! I wish my house had windows like that. So much character!
It’s so wonderful how strong your family is – I’m really close to my family, and it’s nice to see other people have the same relationship
That pizza looks insanely good! And her house is GORGEOUS!
So bright and airy! I love it. And also love that it really looks like fall down there. You’re only a few hours south of me (I’m in DC) but fall has obviously come sooner to Virginia.
How is it that you live in summer, and it is almost winter here already?
I love Karen’s house!!!
i love places like that – hotels/restaurants that are built in old gas stations, schools, etc. i was just talking to someone today about a B&B in KY that used to be a prison!
Love love the photo with you almost black and white and the bright beer!
Karen’s place looks awesome, so bright and spacious!
Pizza and beer are the perfect food for a Friday night
Love the crisp leaves on the roadside. Karen’s place looks beautiful and so full of natural light.
Looks like you all had a fab night out and the pizza looks heavenly. I do like a good pizza!
oh her house looks beautiful!
What a pretty house, I love the big windows above the fireplace.
Sound like a great day! That restaurant looks so neat. And I don’t know what it is…but your food shots in this post look extra phenomenal.
Thanks!
What a fun day! It must be awesome living in a place where you can simply walk to dinner. Love that!
I love how open her house is! I’ve read that high ceilings increase brain activity: when people study for a test in a room with high ceilings, they tend to do better than when they study in a room with low ceilings…
Do you like having Karen so close? I live a block away from my boyfriend’s mother and grandmother. I really like being so close to family!
You are so beautiful, Kath (as always :-])! I love the photograph of the leaves. Autumn is my favorite season. The idea of turning an old gas station into a restaurant is marvelous! The pizzas look delish! Have a great weekend!
Thanks
That restaurant is so cool looking! Yummy looking pizza’s too.
Love your blog! I was given a TV that made a humming noise. My dog was so freaked out by it and wouldn’t come into the room it was in. I had to give it back. Good luck with yours!
The bike route looks pretty! I have yet to find the new Larabars, unfortunately.
That looks like a pretty road to ride on! And what a perfect fall day for biking!
WOW what a gorgeous house!! Looks like you guys had a great night. Have fun at the market today!
Karen’s house looks great!! And yay for getting a TV!
Now you can watch Gossip Girl in real time! I say this on every “out to eat” post, but can I reiterate how jealous I am of all the cool restaurants you have in Charlottesville?
Dress is LOFT, flip flops are target?
is the one on the pic your mom? you both have the same legs
those pizzas look nice…it’s nice to walk especially after dinner…:)
Nope, mother in law
I’m a PhD Student which implies a level of transiency; meaning I like to think about where I’d like to live once I graduate.
Ashville was the number 1 choice but your posts about about how beautiful Charlottesville and all of its great restaurants have put C-ville in the running!
I love the blue dress – SO CUTE!
That pizza looks WONDERFUL!!
Also, we bought Williamsburg Alewerks Pumpkin last night….FABULOUS! Thanks for the suggestion. It might be my second favorite pumpkin brew! Saranac is my #1, but this came in at a close second!!
Karen’s house looks really nice. The pizza looked great. Check to make sure you don’t have a reverse electricity problem. My boyfriends grandparents recently moved and their tv went from normal function to a loud buzzing sound and that was problem.
What does reverse electricity mean? Is that a setting on the TV?
Those pizzas look fantastic…totally craving some now!
I really like your blue dress!!
I LOVE your dress, Kath!
