weekend with grandparents

July 2, 2013

Matt had the fun of going to the National Homebrewers Conference this weekend, so my parents came down to help me play with Mazen. I made an itinerary so we wouldn’t miss anything fun – from a trip to the Cville mall (the real one!) to a splash in the pool to Fridays After Five and dinner in the countryside.

We cooked in one night – I made the Chicken & Bean bake again.

It was delicious, but I used a GIANT zucchini and its water diluted the dish, so I would not recommend too many watery veggies (bake them on the side).

Still good though – served with Great Harvest rolls and some delicious white wines

All eyes on M!

We had a fabulous time splashing in the pool too. See the big slide in the background? Since mom and I could share baby duties, we each went down! It was very impressive for a small pool slide. Our pool also has a lazy river –fun! M loves to splash.

We all went to Fridays After Five for a picnic. Great weather!

Our friends L and Rosie joined us!

Take one…

Take two!

We had chicken and bean leftovers for dinner, which made great picnic food

I had the fun of going out with my girlfriends after M went to bed one night – yee haw!

There was never a shortage of playmates

We had breakfast at the City Market

Lunch at the bakery

Dinner at Positively Fourth Street {crabcake sandwich with roasted cauliflower!}

And dessert at Chaps!

Mom and I went to a friend’s baby shower on Saturday and Pea had his first time babysitting.

They did great together!

Dinner at Blue Mountain Brewery is always a hit!

Mom and I went on power walks every morning before the sun got too hot. On our final morning we went on our walk and thanks to a cold, M fell asleep. We just kept walking and walking to keep him resting and ended up covering 5.25 miles on foot!

By the time we walked to brunch at KK’s and back, we’d walked over 7 miles before noon.

Check out M’s new trick! He went from crawling to climbing stairs faster than I ever would have predicted.

M loves to swing – on porches and in parks

Can’t wait for Buzz + Pea to return!

But we are very happy to have Dada home.

Oh my! That crabcake sandwich sounds and LOOKS incredible! I’m a fan of ANYTHING crab and the cauliflower is calling my name too! So many of my favorite foods all in one dish.

Maze looks JUST like his grandma!!! :-)

I roasted cauliflower for the first time the other night. All the recipes I’ve found use lemon and I wasn’t that big of a fan. What do you use to season your cauliflower with? I’d love to try again.

I roast mine with just olive oil, salt, pepper and chopped garlic. I do the same with broccoli and it’s amazing!

Such amazing photos of them together!
So cute. And all the food looks so fantastic.
Especially the fresh salad at the bakery. Everytime I see a salad I crave one – must be the hot weather.

Maze is SO adorable. Food looks absolutely delicious. I love the idea of the chicken and bean bake.

Thanks for sharing.

Oh the City Market, Friday’s After Five, dinner downtown, desert at Chaps, Blue Mountain Brewery — I think I miss Charlottesville most in the summer! Thanks for the beautiful pics. Mazen just continues to get cuter!

Agh. Stairs! I know that is what’s next for mine but I’m not ready.

Crab cake sandwich sounds divine. I disliked crab for ages, until I had some that changed my mind. I can’t get enough of it now.

Mazen is such a cutie. And I love that dress you’re wearing in one of the pictures. Such a great print for summer!

OMG I saw Matt at Monk’s last week! I was probably staring like a creep but I felt like I was looking at a celebrity, haha! Mazen is getting so big – what a stud!

14 KathEats July 2, 2013 at 10:46 am

Haha – really!? He said that was his favorite bar of the trip : ) He would have gotten a kick out of you saying hi!

15 Matt July 2, 2013 at 11:05 am

You should’ve said hello!

16 Cait's Plate July 2, 2013 at 11:52 am

Such a fun weekend – nothing beats family time :)

Question – do you use your prime lens for most of your photos? They look so crisp and vibrant!

17 KathEats July 2, 2013 at 1:39 pm

I do : )

Look at his two teeth. What a little grin!

27 Lisa @bitesforbabies July 3, 2013 at 5:55 am

Isn’t it crazy how many “takes” you need to take to get a decent pic of your child! Just wait until you have TWO! My daughter is always ready with a smile…it’s my son who’s Mr. Serious 😉

28 Alyssa July 3, 2013 at 9:05 am

I loved this post :-) It was like a giant children’s story with real life pictures! Well done, Kath!

So nice for you to have a lovely family weekend with your Mum and Dad, looks like a great time was had by all.
Stairs ?????? already ????? that makes your heart skip, good idea to teach little danger man to safely go down backwards.
Wonderful to see how confident Maze is to try new things.

32 Kathryn @ Mamacado July 7, 2013 at 7:27 pm

Looks like a great 4th! I can’t believe how much our babies look alike. Maybe it’s because they were born about the same time, but I do think they looks alike!
