weekend with grandparents

Matt had the fun of going to the National Homebrewers Conference this weekend, so my parents came down to help me play with Mazen. I made an itinerary so we wouldn’t miss anything fun – from a trip to the Cville mall (the real one!) to a splash in the pool to Fridays After Five and dinner in the countryside.

Foodblog-7382

We cooked in one night – I made the Chicken & Bean bake again.

Foodblog-7340

It was delicious, but I used a GIANT zucchini and its water diluted the dish, so I would not recommend too many watery veggies (bake them on the side).

Foodblog-7342

Still good though – served with Great Harvest rolls and some delicious white wines

Foodblog-7344

Foodblog-7345

All eyes on M!

Foodblog-7347

We had a fabulous time splashing in the pool too. See the big slide in the background? Since mom and I could share baby duties, we each went down! It was very impressive for a small pool slide. Our pool also has a lazy river –fun! M loves to splash.

KAY-113311

We all went to Fridays After Five for a picnic. Great weather!

Foodblog-7374

Cheese!

Foodblog-7352

Our friends L and Rosie joined us!

Take one…

Foodblog-7380

Take two!

Foodblog-7381

We had chicken and bean leftovers for dinner, which made great picnic food

Foodblog-7385

 Foodblog-7387

I had the fun of going out with my girlfriends after M went to bed one night – yee haw!

There was never a shortage of playmates

We had breakfast at the City Market

Lunch at the bakery

Dinner at Positively Fourth Street {crabcake sandwich with roasted cauliflower!}

Foodblog-183952

And dessert at Chaps!

Foodblog-190624

Mom and I went to a friend’s baby shower on Saturday and Pea had his first time babysitting.

They did great together!

Foodblog-7398

Dinner at Blue Mountain Brewery is always a hit!

Mom and I went on power walks every morning before the sun got too hot. On our final morning we went on our walk and thanks to a cold, M fell asleep. We just kept walking and walking to keep him resting and ended up covering 5.25 miles on foot!

image

By the time we walked to brunch at KK’s and back, we’d walked over 7 miles before noon.

Foodblog-7421

Check out M’s new trick! He went from crawling to climbing stairs faster than I ever would have predicted.

Foodblog-7416Foodblog-7417

M loves to swing – on porches and in parks

Foodblog-7431

Can’t wait for Buzz + Pea to return!

But we are very happy to have Dada home.

Oh my! That crabcake sandwich sounds and LOOKS incredible! I’m a fan of ANYTHING crab and the cauliflower is calling my name too! So many of my favorite foods all in one dish.

Maze looks JUST like his grandma!!! 🙂

I roasted cauliflower for the first time the other night. All the recipes I’ve found use lemon and I wasn’t that big of a fan. What do you use to season your cauliflower with? I’d love to try again.

      Hi,
I roast mine with just olive oil, salt, pepper and chopped garlic. I do the same with broccoli and it’s amazing!

Such amazing photos of them together!
So cute. And all the food looks so fantastic.
Especially the fresh salad at the bakery. Everytime I see a salad I crave one – must be the hot weather.

Oh the City Market, Friday’s After Five, dinner downtown, desert at Chaps, Blue Mountain Brewery — I think I miss Charlottesville most in the summer! Thanks for the beautiful pics. Mazen just continues to get cuter!

Crab cake sandwich sounds divine. I disliked crab for ages, until I had some that changed my mind. I can’t get enough of it now.

Isn’t it crazy how many “takes” you need to take to get a decent pic of your child! Just wait until you have TWO! My daughter is always ready with a smile…it’s my son who’s Mr. Serious 😉
