Virginia Bootcamp

September 3, 2010

We are alive! We just barely made it out of the DMV safely. Matt was almost sent home for lack of a correct format of proof of residency, but luckily the manager accepted it after I pulled up our lease agreement on my very, very smart phone! We also had a slight title issue with my car, but licenses and plates will arrive in the mail in 10 days.

Any guesses to what my new license plate reads!??

Now we have to get our cars inspected ASAP because evidently our North Carolina inspection stickers aren’t worth pennies anymore. Good thing we have alternative means of transport a.k.a. bicycles!

The DMV robbed us of 2 hours and 303 dollars. Not the best, but not the worst.

We arrived home at 12:30 for a leftover lovers lunch. [Virginia, is also, for lovers.]

Piles of mixed greens, collard greens, tofu + eggplant, yellow mater, quinoa and brie. I think that pretty much sums up our week!

IMG_2212 (640x427)

Plus a few chips on the side.

IMG_2215 (640x427) (2)

IMG_2219 (640x427) (2)

I bit into this apple and you’ll never guess what came exploding out!!! Peanut butter!! It’s my lucky day!

IMG_2225 (640x427) (2)

Blog friend Madison sent me two jars of her homemade nut butter [After perusing her blog, it is clear she is quite a recipe diva!]. Today’s was a a quadruple nut butter made with peanuts, almonds, walnuts, and pecans. It was fabbbbbulous. Right on all of these accounts: Good runny consistency, crunchy bits texture, salty, peanuty, stick-to-the-roof-of-your mouthy.

Lots more to do today, but we’re hoping to get the weekend started with a bang tonight!!

That picture of the apple and peanut butter is great!
And how great is it that a smartphone can come to the rescue?! Who would have thought?

Love the apple pic! If only that really happened!

I bet your plate says
GR8 HVST

or KERF, but, naturally, everyone will say that.

When I get a house with a yard I will plant an apple tree that grows peanut butter apples. Haha!

Just looking out for you Kath… maybe you should remove the hint for your license plate for safety reasons? Love you girl, want you to be safe!! :)

I thought about this long and hard. What would be dangerous about sharing a license plate? (I’m honestly asking!)

7 Jasmine @ Eat Move Write September 3, 2010 at 3:23 pm

I think she’s referring to possible stalking. The world is weird. Still. If you had a KERF shirt or a KERF bumper sticker or something, people would still know its you. I’m not sure a license plate is any more threatening than any other type of self promotion. Just my two cents.

Reply

8 Pam September 3, 2010 at 5:53 pm

I agree that the world is weird… I don’t think sharing a license plate number on your blog is exactly safe! Just my two cents about being careful!

Yeah, people can follow you or find out where you live….
sorry to be so scary about it all but I really think it is not a safe idea
especially for a woman. You never know who is reading on the worldwide web.

Safety first !(and fun after ;)

I don’t think it’s completely unsafe. Obviously posting anything personal on the web isn’t safe. If someone really wants to get her, they will from things far less time consuming than a license plate. I’m not sure how RDs are, but most professions where you need a license are publicly listed somewhere. For instance, I’m an insurance agent…someone can easily look up my name in the database and know my address, phone number, and work number. Public records. People who read this obviously know she lives in Charlottesville and her name is Kath (or Katherine etc.) Younger and that she is a licensed RD. Psychos can easily look that up.

Of course that’s true!
Maybe I am more of a worrier than others ;)

12 homecookedem September 4, 2010 at 8:47 am

I’m with you Marla, I’m a worrier too! ;) Didn’t mean to come off as bossy, just a suggestion for your privacy, that’s all! :)

13 Emily G. September 4, 2010 at 5:17 pm

LOL You didn’t come off bossy at all and I completely understand where you’re coming from..which is why I don’t post public info (I had a major stalking issue from a previous blog and had to shut it down). I just think there is so much public information about her that knowing a license plate number is kind of petty.

LOL I think I watch too much Law & Order and CSI.

I love the picture of the apple with the peanut butter. Awesome shot!

I live in Washington, DC and whenever I take the subway to Arlington or Alexandria, I see signs and posters that say “Virginia is for lovers” and for some reason they totally crack me up. I bet the DMV has plenty of those posters. LOL.

The MTO here always seems to be busiest around the end and beginning of the month. We actually have kiosks in public places where you can renew your licence, plates, emissions test, etc… so it’s really convenient. no waiting!

I LOVE that I can drive out to a nearby city’s DMV. The wait at the one by my house is ALWAYS about two hours. The wait at the other one? The LONGEST it has ever taken is 15 minutes.

I bet you got 3BEARS.

And I agree it’s fine to put your license plate. That’s not a number anyone can do anything with and honestly if someone wanted to find you they can just go into the Great Harvest store you are opening. Or stalk the hot yoga classes in town.

I think internet safety is important, but also overrated sometimes. I have a website for my job that lists my office address. So, anyone wanting to find me can just come there.

You are going to love fall and apple orchards around Charlottesville. My son almost was arrested at the Charlottesville DMV when he went to get a VA license on his 21st birthday. He had a copy of his social security card instead of the real thing. Apparently that is against the law and they called the police who not only questioned him they called to question me about where I had made the copy and what kind of machine!

Oh I feel you on the DMV. We just got our licenses, but we haven’t yet done the title/license plate/car things yet. Our first Virginia DMV experience a few weeks ago took us about 3.5 hours. Ugh, the trauma.
