We spent the morning going on an urban hike with Faith + Tate! It’s the perfect solution when you want to march around outdoors but don’t have the time or energy to drive to the mountaintops to do so. We hiked 4.25 miles around the historic district’s perfectly manicured streets and covered another 3 miles on our bikes going to and from F+T’s house. We’re going to miss them this week when they travel to New York for a wedding!
I got hungry earlier than normal today – was breakfast smaller? I dunno! When we got home at noon, Matt and I dug into lunch.
I took one of our special sunflower honey wheat buns and smothered it with Lavender Crunch Hummus and sharp cheddar broiled for a few minutes. There is really no sandwich experience quite like crunching through one of these buns!
Mmmmmmelty!
On the side – a big leafy salad with carrot, honey, olive oil, lavender salt, giant raisins ad walnuts
‘Twas delicious!
I am very disappointed in today’s weather, but headed back on my bike to run a few errands.
Come back sun! I dare you.

Goodness that bread looks good, what a delightful looking lunch!
Mmm the crunch of that sandwich sounds great right about now
If we can’t have sunny weather, I’m at least going to enjoy some sunflower seeds!
I want one of those sandwiches now
I love bread like that! Down here in Aruba which is a Dutch island, and the local pastries and breads are all handmade, they have bread like that..posted about it yesterday. It makes me want to say ba-bye to being GF
I hope the sun comes out for you too!!
I am so jealous that you have good places to hike! I don’t even have sidewalks.
That lunch looks amazing! Love the texture/flavor/color combination. I hope you have a great afternoon!

That bun looks so good!
Can I also just say that your recent strawberry harvest posts inspired me to plant some fruits and veggies in my back yard! I wrote about it in my last post. I hope I can pick some berries for my breakfast right in my backyard soon, too!
Is that your house in that last pic? Love buns.
Nope
sorry, just asking.
Mmm that bun looks amazing!
it’s gloomy in la today too. funny, i spent the morning snapping pix of purple flowers too!
Do all great harvest breads do the buns? I’d love to get some…
Every Great Harvest is different
Yes, I would also love to get some of those buns! So I would have to ask at the Great Harvest in my area if they make those? I think they should
Your meals always look so delicious. Love your blog
Well at least you got in some fitness and were able to hang out with friends.
Mmmm. Kerf classic meal. Never a disappointment
Where do you get lavender salt from?
You can make it – Faith has a recipe on her blog
I made some last week, and it’s really easy. I’ve been using it as a salad topper, and love it.
Those buns look marvelous!

Love the beautiful flowers! The sun is hiding here, we are getting storms here : p
Have a great night! xo <3

Mmm that sunflower wheat bun looks deeeelicious! I love seedy breads
You’re so right….crunchy toasty bread makes the perfect sandwich. Couldn’t have it any other way!
Those flowers are BEAUTIFUL!!
And lunch looked yummy. Hope you enjoyed your Sunday.
Urban hike. Love.
Looks like quite the successful Sunday to me!!
It is sooo gloomy, misty, and gross here today. I wouldn’t even dare to go outside for a long period of time – with the fear of downpours and T-storms constantly lurking. A hike.. would have been awesome today!
The bun looks wonderful, yum!
Lavender. Crunch. Hummus. Best.
That bun sandwich looks delicious! Seedy, grainy bread is the best.
Your salads always look so fantastic!!! I need to start chopping veggies pronto!
That lunch looks so good! Hummus + cheddar? Mmmm.
Wow, that bun looks SO good and so does the salad. I’ve never topped a salad with honey, but it’s an intriguing idea!
That bread looks really good! I really need to get my hands on some Great Harvest.
How/when do you and Matt sprinkle your sunflower seeds on top of the bread? I love to bake sunflower bread, it’s one of my faves. But if I put the seeds on top right before baking, they always burn. I’ve also tried sprinkling them on later in the baking process, but they don’t stick! Thoughts?
If they’re burning, I’m guessing the oven temp is too high. I can’t disclose the temp we bake them in though! We add the the seeds before baking begins.
Ok..you can be my chef anyday!
Mmm…the sandwich is delightful!
I hope the weather cooperated for your biking errands!!
Looks like a perfect day…minus the clouds!
Pretty flowers in the first picture!
The weather has been so fickle this month! I’m hoping the rest of the summer is just sunny and warm.
Hello! I was wondering what kind of bike you have. I was thinking of getting one for going to the grocery and biking around town which seems similar to how you use the bike. Any recommendations?
A Trek! I got it last fall – it’s great!
I lurve my Trek bike! Highly recommended.
OK that bun looks incredible. Seriously? MMMM…
I love the idea of calling it an “urban hike” –
Lavender crunch hummus sounds so good! I’ve never had homemade hummus but the idea’s awesome. I had a similar salad for dinner last night :] Big leafy salads are the best.
